Converging Destinies: Part 1

Chapter 73

       Cedric counted fifteen creatures that were now locked onto the group. All of them were small, but they ran at the speed of a horse.

       Eris was the first to act. They hurled their dagger at one of the tiny demons. The dagger cut straight through the demon and landed point first into the ice behind its victim.

       The demons surged onto the group. Four collapsed onto Ella, three collapsed upon Eris and Zerai, and two attacked Ara' Sei and Cedric.

       Eris felt one strike stab into their stomach, as the clawed hand of the demon was pulled out, Eris felt the poison hit them, and they immediately felt dizzy.

       Ella felt two of the demons scratch her legs, but they were only minor injuries.

       Zerai felt three painful scrapes as the demons clawed him. Like Ella, he was able to resist the venom that coated the creatures' claws.

       Ara' Sei felt two of the demons claw her stomach and back. Cedric suffered similar blows.

       Ella gripped her greatsword and with two slashes sent two of her assailants flying.

       Zerai gripped his glowing blade and followed Ella's example, easily slaying two of his own assailants.

       Cedric angled himself so that his own assailants as well as Ara' Sei's were spread out before him. He raised his hand forward, and with an emerald flash a wave of power surged from his hand. Four of the demons were instantly turned to black sludge which splashed all over the ice.

       Ara' Sei pointed her finger at Zerai's last remaining assailant. The tiny demon burst into pale divine flames and was incinerated.

       Eris stumbled backwards, dizzy from the venom in their wounds. However, they were able to dispatch one of their foes with a swipe from their dagger. The demons counterattacked, and the dizzying and stinging of the venom was redoubled and intensified.

       One of the demons attacking Ella flashed with red. Ella felt strange fear bubble up from within her and she was forced to run the other way. She felt a claw rake against the back of her knee as she ran. Ella then resisted the fear, but looking back she was already too far away from the fight.

       Zerai charged and immediately cut a demon apart. He advanced upon another and did the same to it.

       Cedric charged, and with one last wave of power, flattened the remaining demons. The group was surrounded by a sea of black sludge. Ara' Sei and Zerai worked on cleaning it off of everyone.

       The party then took one hour to regather themselves. They tended their wounds, meditated, or otherwise entertained themselves.

       "Should we go back into town?" Cedric asked.

       "I'm not sure. We definitely took care of many of the demons that were there, but we should be careful anyway." They answered.

       "Eris brings up a point, with my banishment spell and all of those demons we've just killed, most of the threats are taken care of. We should go back and check on this village's survivors." Zerai said.

       "Agreed, we'll go back to the village, now that it's more safe." Ara' Sei added. The regathered group prepared themselves to venture into the village once more. At least for now, they had a window of relative safety, and they had to take it.
