Converging Destinies: Part 1

Chapter 65

       Zerai, having been the first to prepare, was also the first to act. His sword glowed, and with a slash two bolts of light flew at the hulking creature. Both of the bolts slammed into it, with lacking effect.

       Ella charged towards it with her greatsword. However, her attack bounced off the creature's rock hard hide.

       "Oh, so that's how it is huh!?" Ella pulled her greatsword from the ice and swung it upwards. It also bounced off the creature's hide. Then, she brought her sword around again. Finally, it impacted, but it didn't go as deep, the creature's skin flashed as the blade touched it, and Ella almost felt the blade bounce off before it could inflict any real damage.

       Cedric lifted his hand to the sky, and above the action a small, dark stormcloud formed. The cloud crackled with electricity as a bolt of lighting struck the creature. Despite fully hitting the creature, the creature seemed relatively unharmed. It was almost as if it could shrug off the impact of the lightning.

       Eris ran with almost supernatural speed past the creature and leapt behind it. Then, they drew one of their glowing daggers and attempted to plunge it into the creature. But, where they struck, the hide was too thick for the dagger to find flesh.

       Ara' Sei stepped towards the action, clutching a hand to her chest. She muttered under her breath, and her eyes began to glow. As she raised her hand towards the creature, it burst into radiant flames. Then, Ara' Sei raised her hand, and a massive blade of light arced down to impact the creature. The blade of light skimmed the creature's shoulder, but wasn't able to land a very direct hit.

       One of the creature's pincers flew towards Ella, while the other flew towards Eris. Ella deflected the approaching pincer with her greatsword. However, the pincer clasp around Eris's midsection and pinched down. As Eris screamed from the pain, they could hear some of their ribs crunch under the pressure. With horror, they realized they were trapped. Then, the creature looked up at the stormcloud and its eyes glowed. Within the storm cloud, there was a red flash, and it was dispersed.

       Zerai ran towards the creature and muttered under his breath. Golden flames manifested around the creature and seared it. These flames, like Ara' Sei's, were divine in nature.

       Ella raised her sword and brought it down in an arc upon the creature. The creature caught the blade in its arm and shoved her back. Then, she brought her sword back up and plunged the tip into the creature. But, she felt that same resistance as before, which was strange and almost unnerving in nature.

       Cedric opened his palm, and a flame appeared above it. Then, the flame flew at the massive creature. The flame connected, but the creature was oddly calm about it. It was barely deterred by being hit with flames. Then, there was a flash of emerald as Cedric spoke under his breath. Eris felt one of their ribs crack back into place. Then, they put both of their hands on their dagger, and once again attempted to plunge it into the creature. The dagger sank into the creature, and it wailed in pain. Black ichor shot from the wound as Eris yanked their blade out.

       Ara' Sei raised her hand, and let a beacon build at her fingertips. As she had many times before, she let the power build to the brink before releasing it. However, the beacon glanced off the creature's thick hide. With frustration, Ara' Sei attempted to bring the blade she had summoned down onto the creature once again. With one of its arms, the creature caught it and shoved it aside.

       "What is this thing?" Ara' Sei whispered to herself, horrified.
