Converging Destinies: Part 1

Chapter 24

       The pirates all wielded blades and charged confidently at the crew aboard the Sky Chaser. Two pirates split up and attacked each visible of the group and one of the three crewmates. One pirate drove their blade a few inches into Cedric's side, immediately drawing blood. Another slashed Cedric's shoulder, and Cedric cried out in pain.

       Two other pirates closed in on Ella. The first slashed into Ella's upper leg, making it difficult for her to stand. The second pirate tried to drive his sword through Ella's heart, but instead it glanced off her armor.

       Ara' Sei found herself facing two pirates as well. To the first, she raised her hand and was able to distract him with a flash of light. However, because she was occupied with one, the other was able to backstab her, the blade sinking several inches into her stomach from behind.

       Each crewmate was equally outnumbered. One crewmate was immediately injured by a hit. Another crewmate was immediately cut down mercilessly. The third combat ready crewmate was stabbed in the stomach, and immediately found themselves on the verge of death.

       Suddenly, one of the pirates attacking Cedric had a shining magical dagger flying into the side of their head, killing them immediately. Eris finally showed themself, and ran to Cedric's aid.

       With a battle cry, Ella retaliated against her assailants. She immediately beheaded the first of her assailants with one clean swing of her greatsword. She turned to the other, and brought her sword high above her head before bringing it down upon her other assailant. Immediately, the second pirate's upper body was bisected by the sheer power of the blow.

       One of the crewmates of the sky chaser impaled one of their attackers. The other remaining battle-ready crewmate attempted to fight back but their attack was deflected by one of the pirates.

       Ara' Sei's eyes became aglow with her power. But, the pirate backed away before they were hit by radiant flames. In frustration, Ara' Sei raised her hand, and brought it down. A blade of light appeared above the pirate and came down in an arc. The pirate was almost immediately slain by the blade of light. They coughed blood onto the deck as the blade was stuck in their back.

       Cedric took a step away from his attacker. As he muttered, a crackling cloud appeared above the ship. The sound of thunder washed over the boat in frightening clarity. From this cloud, a bolt of lightning shot down upon the remaining pirate that was attacking him. Even though the pirate tried to dive away, they were struck by the lightning, and fell to the ground burnt and twitching from the electricity.

       Despite the vicious counterattack, the pirates continued to press their advantage. They still had an advantage in terms of numbers, and they were planning on pushing that advantage to its full potential.
