Each of the three that had surrounded the man in dark armor were bitten. The teeth themselves were fiery hot, and they scorched the wounds that they punctured. The man in dark armor stumbled away, and his wounds began to magically mend.
Zerai was able to run towards him, but was unable to fully catch up to him. Cedric raised his hands to the cloud he had created and electricity gathered within the cloud. Another bolt of lightning struck down upon the man.
Eris charged towards the man, but he was too far away for them to fully catch up.
"Okay Ara' Sei, you have to do it right this time." Ara' Sei whispered to herself. She pointed her finger forward, about to channel the beacon. But, she decided to do something else. Her body began to glow and her hair began to flail about as if caught in wild winds. Ara' Sei raised her hands to the sky. Far above the ground, a point of light began to build.
The man in dark armor looked at Ara' Sei and pointed at her, muttering a verse. Then, darkness consumed Ara' Sei's hands and she fell to the ground.
"Crap!" She cursed. The man smiled wickedly.
Ella charged towards the man, but with his teleportation he had run too far for the group to catch him quickly enough.
As the hell hounds charged forwards, the man stood up confidently.
"I think I'll be ending this reunion." He said, pointing his arm forward. Fire began to build within his arm, and then the flame flew forward. As the flame flew forward, it exploded in a blinding flash of light and heat.
As the flash from the explosion expired, it revealed Ella and Eris, lying on the ice. Zerai was on his knees, and looked up to see the man advancing upon him. The man's greatsword was dripping with shadows. The last thing Zerai saw was the sword arcing down upon him, and then darkness following it.
The hell hounds turned to the two remaining people standing, which were Cedric and Ara' Sei.
Two charged at Cedric, and one charged at Ara' Sei. The one charging at Ara' Sei inhaled, then exhaled a blast of fire. Ara' Sei was able to leap out of the way, avoiding the full force of the flames.
Cedric felt a fiery hot maw bite his leg. The other hell hound ripped flesh from his arm. It took everything he had to keep the lightning cloud above from fading. Cedric looked at the bodies of his friends on the ice, and reached his hands out.
An emerald light appeared above the bodies, then, the glow expanded to encompass the three bodies on the ice. The three on the ice began to move as vitality flowed through them. The man in armor looked at Cedric with a visage of rage. Cedric stood up confidently, in spite of his condition and his assailants.
"We're not going down this easily, not after we've gotten this far!" Cedric shouted.
Eris got up from the ground, dizzy from the residual heat of the explosion. They looked around, and saw that Cedric was being attacked. They rushed to his aid. Their dagger plunged into the back of one of the hell hounds, and it growled loudly in response.
Ara' Sei looked at the man, and rage began to fill her. This man had run slave trade in western Theros, this man had ruined Zerai's first life, and this man had hurt her friends. She let her anger build within her. She raised her hands to the sky, and a blade of light struck down. It struck the man's chest, sending him reeling back.
"You leave my friends alone!" Ara' Sei shouted. The man's body went up in radiant flames, and he screamed in pain. After which, he fell to the ground. The hell hounds began to look around in confusion and terror as their bodies crumbled to ash. For they no longer had their master's magic to hold them in the material plane. The group looked at each other and cheered. Ella took the man's greatsword and made sure he was dead.
"Wow, this is a nice blade he had! I think he's dead, so it's mine!" Ella declared gleefully. The blade was black, and faintly glowed with magical power.
The party regathered themselves, and set up a water orb for the night. Now, they were on their way to closing the portal that was letting demons into Point Frost. They had defeated an old foe and survived to tell the tale.
Author's Note: Due to the difficult fight and the fact that they put an old foe to rest (again) the party is going from level 9 to level 10.
