Converging Destinies: Part 1

Chapter 100

       One of the remaining flaming figures flew towards Zerai. The figures did not have legs, almost as if they hovered across the ground instead of walking.

       The figure started by flying past Zerai, its infernal form temporarily swallowing him in the blaze. Zerai felt two waves of burning pain pulse through him as the figure slammed its fiery arms into him.

       The second remaining figure flew past Cedric, Cedric reached his arm out, and it absorbed some of the flames. But, he still felt burning pain tear through him. Every time the creature struck Cedric, some of the flames were absorbed into his outstretched arm.

       Seeing what was happening to Cedric, Eris charged towards Cedric's assailant. They rolled so that they were on the side opposite to Cedric before stabbing the creature in the back. Then, they leapt back.

       Zerai steeled himself against the burning pain before once again advancing on his adversary. His first swipe went wide, but he was finally able to slash his opponent with his blade. The magical nature of the blade allowed it to be capable of harming a creature made of flame.

       Cedric stepped away from the figure that was attacking him and muttered under his breath. But in the fury, he had lost his focus on the cloud above. In frustration, he pointed at the figure and began muttering under his breath. A point of emerald light appeared in the air, around which the flames within the figure rapidly faded. The whole figure flickered, before vanishing and not reappearing.

       With her hand, Ara' Sei guided her blade of light towards the final figure before striking the figure. The blade skimmed the figure's arm. With frustration, Ara' Sei pointed at the figure, and focused her divine power. Radiant flames burst around the figure. Even though it was a creature of flame, these flames were divine in nature.

       Then, Ella charged. In a flurry of fluid blows her greatsword weaved and carved through the figure. The figure was wildly flickering when Ella had finished her barrage. She didn't care for the searing heat of the creature.

       The figure silently roared before flying past and through Ella. Ella felt one patch of searing heat hit her in the center of her back.

       A spinning dagger flew through the air towards the figure's head with unfathomable speed. As the dagger flew through the figure, it was dispersed, and the magic that held it together was damaged beyond repair.

       The group doused the flames that had been set upon them.

       "Ok. We need rest, just a bit. Before going further." Cedric said. No one objected. The group stayed in there for an hour. Zerai used his magic to heal both himself and Ella. Ara' Sei and Eris attempted to tend their burns. Cedric meditated, trying to calm himself before the fight ahead continued. Ella and Zerai were able to fully recover from the battle. However, Ara' Sei and Cedric had expended some of their magical resources.

       "Cedric, how are you holding up?" Eris asked affectionately.

       "I'm fine. Besides the fact that half of my spells are expended, I'm doing okay." Cedric said.

       "Are you gonna be alright?" Eris asked. Cedric nodded in response.

       "Okay, I think we're ready. Let's keep going, we have a job to do." Zerai said.
