It was bright out. I squinted my eyes at the sun and my head started to slightly throb. I looked over at Daryl and saw him with his hands tied in his lap, leaning against a tree, just like I was.
I then saw our kidnappers huddled in a group with their backs to us, and the man was putting out a fire.
I slowly moved my foot over to Daryl and nudged his leg. He then opened his eyes quickly, as if he has been awake but just acting passed out, and looked at me.
I nodded at him and he nodded back. I then sighed and looked at our kidnappers. They were whispering to each other and I couldn't make out what they were saying.
"Hey." I said, and they turned around. "We're awake."
The man then walked over to us and squatted down to eye level.
"Get up. We're moving." He ordered.
We just sat quietly and refused to move.
He then pulled out a gun and aimed it at Daryl's head. "Hey!" He shouted. "Get up and don't say shit. If you do, I'll kill you."
"I ain't who you think." Daryl said calmly.
The man cocked him gun and I tensed up.
"Why are you doing this?" I asked, to get the attention off of Daryl.
The man looked at me and swiftly pointed his gun at my head. Daryl tensed up and tried to block me, but the man only used that against him.
He put his hand around my throat where my fresh cut is and pulled me up to my feet. I cried in pain and started to struggle to breathe.
Daryl then jumped up, the man let me go, and Daryl stood in front of me. I rested my head against his back for a few seconds as I breathed deeply and the pain subsided.
"Move." The man ordered.
Daryl refused to move. I didn't want to get grabbed by the throat again, so I moved out from behind Daryl and started walking forwards. Daryl instantly followed trying to keep himself between the man and me.
The two women walked ahead of us, and the man stayed behind Daryl with his gun aimed.
"You good?" Daryl asked me.
"Shut up. Keep walking." The man said, nudging Daryl with his gun.
Daryl stop walking and so did I.
"Are you good?" Daryl asked again.
"I'm okay." I said and nodded.
"I said keep walking." The man said.
He pushed him hard, making Daryl stumble backwards and fall. Daryl then stood up quickly and the man aimed his gun, but I instantly stepped in between them.
"You shoot him, you shoot me." I said and protectively stood in front of Daryl.
"I will." The man said.
"Then what are you waiting for?" I asked, daring him to do it.
We just waited and he did nothing. He sighed and put his gun away and held up his hands. He then pointed ahead. "Walk." He said.
I turned around and looked at Daryl, who was already looking at me. I sighed and we both knew we didn't have a choice.
"Walk." The man said one more time.
So we did.~~~~~~~~~~
We stopped at the fence line of some factory, but it was overrun with walkers. Some saw us and snarled through the fence but many wandered around aimlessly.
"She was supposed to meet us here.." The older woman said.
"She's gone." The man sighed.
"But she can't be.." The younger girl said.
"She is." The man said.
Daryl and I were standing behind them and we looked at each other. Our bags , along with theirs, were just a few feet from us and the kidnappers weren't paying attention to us. I tilted head slightly in that direction and Daryl barely nodded.
I took a deep breath and waited for the exact moment to run.
Just then the young girl started crying, then hyperventilating, and collapsed to the ground.
That was it. Time to go.
Daryl quickly grabbed all the bags and we instanly turned around and ran into the forest.
The man aimed his gun and fired a few shots, but quickly forgot about us. We ran farther away from them and ducked down behind a fallen tree.
Daryl rummaged through the bags and grabbed a knife and cut the rope around my wrists. I rubbed them quickly and then cut Daryl free.
We then heard a groan and saw a walker connected to a tree by moss and mud.
"Oh god." I muttered.
He then got free and fell forwards, grabbing my foot. Daryl quickly kicked him away and I stabbed it in the head with the knife.
I breathed heavily and felt a pain in my throat. I started to wheeze and held my neck. I moved over to the log and sat down.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Daryl asked and moved my hands to look at my neck.
I nodded and got my breathing back to normal and the pain subsided.
"It's still fresh. Soon it'll only be another scar." I said, with a hint of annoyance.
Daryl nodded, knelt down in front of me, and began massaging my hands to comfort me. I just stared at him and he sighed. He slowly leaned forwards and gently pressed his lips to the side of my neck. I hummed at his touch and rested my arms on his shoudlers. He then kissed up my neck to my jawline, then to my cheek and stopped just before my lips.
"I love you." He whispered.
I ran my fingers through his hair and nodded. "Me too." I said and touched my forehead to his.
We took a moment to regather ourselves before we knew we had to get moving. I looked over at the kidnappers' bag and was curious about what was inside it.
"Can I see the bag?" I asked Daryl.
He handed it to me and I started searching through it, only to find the basic survival needs, but then I saw a small ice chest. I opened it and saw it was full of insulin.
I sighed and took it out.
"What is it?" Daryl asked.
"Insulin. The girl's a diabetic." I said and just shook my head.
Daryl sighed and I noticed his demeanor change.
"You thinking what I'm thinking?" I asked him.
He slowly nodded and slightly shrugged. "What if that was our kid?" Daryl asked. "We can't just let her die."
I slightly smiled and laughed to myself.
"What's so funny?" He asked.
I stood up and placed my hand on his chest. "You're such a good man... a good father." I said.
He grabbed my hand and kissed it.
"Come on." I said.
