It was the next morning and every able body was up and moving around the Hilltop, preparing everything down to the last detail for our final attack. We planned on ending everything today, Negan and his men, that is if Dwight told us the truth. Daryl and I joined Carol, Michonne, Rick, and Maggie around a table outside, and Rick set down the map he had. There was a "X" at one point, with circles around other points, forming a circle in the center of the map.
"Negan's supposed to be here." Rick said and pointed to the X, then the rest of the circles. "The rest of the Saviors will be here. We take out Negan first, then them, and it's over."
Daryl was studying the map and then nodded to himself. "All right." He said and pointed to a side road. "We'll stick to this road, keep to the trees, we'll get there quicker. Plus we can keep an eye on the road that way."
I nodded in agreement and crossed my arms together. "Yeah, if they're planning anything, we'll see it." I said, and we both looked at each other.
"You think we can trust Gregory?" Michonne asked. "What he told us from Dwight?"
"I locked him up inside the house." Maggie said. "He knew I wouldn't let him walk around free. He knew he was coming back to that. He doesn't believe in anything except himself, and he'd have to believe in the Saviors a whole lot to send us into a trap and think it would work out for him."
"Unless Dwight didn't tell him." Daryl then said. "That asshole could be setting us up."
"He hasn't yet. I don't think he's gonna do it now." I defended him, and Daryl just lightly shrugged.
Rick then folded up the map and stuck it in his pocket, and then something caught his attention at the gate. Morgan was stumbling around, looking lost and agitated, and then focused his attention to the front gate that was getting opened. The small group of Saviors that stayed behind when the attack happened were coming in, and Morgan ran straight to them with his staff sticking out. Carol started running towards him, and we followed, watching what he was going to do from a distance. Carol reached him before he reached the Saviors, spinning him around and ducking at his swing. He saw that he almost hit Carol, and instantly backed up, slowly coming back to his senses.
"They were gone— him." Morgan said, and stared at the Savior's front man. "They were coming in."
"I asked Maggie if we could clear the walkers from the wall. We... drew them away so we wouldn't have to worry about them when we rolled out." The Savior said.
"He did." Maggie said in agreement and stared at Morgan, who still looked upset.
He just sighed and looked at Carol, but then Rick walked in between them.
"Let's keep getting ready, everyone. He said and then spun around to look at all of us. "First team's going in ten."
I then saw Maggie turn towards the Savior and she shook her head at him. "You said when we roll out." I heard her say. "You can stay here. You're not going. You're not one of us."
She then walked away and he let out a sigh. "As long as we got that straight." He muttered under his breath.
The Saviors walked in a line back to their pen, and I turned around to gather my things. I met up with Daryl who was preparing his crossbow and collecting the last of his ammo for his guns. I grabbed my backpack from him and opened it up, pulling out my different attachments to my prosthetic. I decided to choose a 10 inch blade with a serrated part towards the bottom, and fastened it into its slot.
I sighed as I zipped up my bag and tossed it onto a nearby table. I gave my arm a few swings and rolled my neck, loosening up my muscles.
"You ready?" Daryl asked me.
I nodded and then looked at him, and saw he was all ready to go. "Yeah. Today's the day, right?"
Daryl nodded his head and then looked towards the front gates, where our first group, consisting of Jerry, Ezekiel, Jesus, Morgan, Rosita, Carol, and Rick and Michonne, were gathering.
It was officially time to go.
I grabbed Daryl's hand and squeezed it tightly, and he shook our hands. "Let's go." Daryl said.
I nodded and we walked together to the front gates, which were then opened. Daryl knew where to lead us, so we walked out first, with the group following us, and Rick and Michonne holding hands in the back. I kept my head held high as I looked forwards, and began to mentally prepare myself for probably the toughest fight of our lives.
