It's been almost a week since our first encounter with Negan, and since Glenn and Abe's gruesome deaths. Tensions were high as we knew it was getting closer to when Negan would arrive in Alexandria.
It was midday. Carl was watching the kids for me, and I was on gate duty with Spencer and Rosita.
We heard the sound of brakes squeaking and engines running, and that could only mean one thing.
He was finally here.
He began whistling to himself then said, "Dah dah dahh."
Through the gate, we saw a silhouette of a man's body, and he was holding a bat. We already knew who it was. Rosita tensed up at the sight of the bat, and Negan tapped on the metal gate with it.
"Little pig, little pig. Let me in!" Negan called.
We all looked at each other, and Spencer finally nodded and opened up the gate.
"Well..." Negan said.
"Uh, who are you?" Spencer said.
"You've gotta be fucking kidding me?" I muttered under my breath.
"You have got to be joking." Negan said and chuckled. "I'm Negan. Lucille." He said, holding up his bat. "Now, I know I have got to have made a strong impression by now."
Rick then arrived, approaching the gate and standing next to Spencer.
"Well hello there." Negan said to Rick.
I walked behind Rick and stared at Negan.
"You said a week." Rick then said. "You're early."
"I missed y'all." Negan said.
We then heard a walker nearby, and a slow one appeared from behind one of Negan's trucks.
"Oh, come on out here Rick. Calling it!" Negan said and turned around.
He hit the walker in the head with his bat and it's body thudded to the ground. Negan laughed, but we just stayed silent and didn't move.
"Easy peezy, lemon squeezy." Negan said, and then we saw a bunch of Negan's men get out of their vehicles. "Alright everyone, let's get started."
I scanned the crowd, seeing a whole lot of people, but not one of them being Daryl. I just sighed and bowed my head, and crossed my arms.
"See what I just did there, Rick? A service. I mean, we almost get turned down at the gate. Who is that guy anyway?" He said and pointed at Spencer. "But do I get mad, do I throw a fit? Bash some ginger's dome in? Nope! I just take care of one of these dead pricks that could've killed one of y'all." Negan smiled and sarcastically bowed. "Service."
He then walked forwards with his bat, and handed it to Rick.
"Hold this." Negan said, while walking past Rick.
Rick grabbed it, but looked away before he looked at back at Negan.
"Hot diggity dog!" Negan laughed when he looked at Alexandria for the first time. "This place is magnificent. An embarrassment of riches, as they say." Negan said and looked back at Rick. "Yes sir, I do believe you are going to have plenty to offer up."
He walked forwards towards us and looked at his people behind us.
"Alright, let's get this show on the road. See what kind of goodies they have in the cupboard."
"We decide half the supplies--" Rick began to speak.
"No." Negan interrupted. "Rick, no. You don't decide what we take. I do."
We just stared at him and he looked behind us, then started chuckling. I then heard a door to one of the trucks close, and looked towards the noise, and almost burst into tears.
Daryl suddenly appeared, with Dwight standing next to him, holding his shirt. He was in different clothes, and they looked gross and dirty. It seemed like he hasn't slept or ate in days, and he had a black eye and looked roughed up. He looked up to catch a glance at me, but that's all I got out of him. He didn't speak, didn't look at me, and didn't move.
"Daryl..." I said, in shock, and so was Rick. "Daryl."
I began walking forwards when Negan held his arm out in front of me.
"Goddamn it, move!" I raised my voice at him, but Negan just pushed me back.
"No. Haha, no." Negan laughed at me. "He's the help. You don't look at him, you don't talk to him, and I don't make you chop anything off of him."
I just huffed and stared at Negan, who was smiling down at me.
"Damn Kell, you are one first piece of meat." He said and nodded towards Daryl. "Why'd the hell you settle for that redneck over there?"
I felt my blood boil and I couldn't hold back my anger any longer. I slapped Negan across the face, pushed him away from me as hard as I could, and instanly raised my pistol up to his face.
All of his men instsnly raised their guns, and aimed all their weapons at me. Negan just held his cheek and looked at me, and then oddly smiled.
"You are so lucky we don't rape." He laughed at me, and moved his jaw around.
"Fuck you." I spat at him.
He then stood up and leaned close to my face. "I'll start that half with that gun of yours."
Negan held out his hand, waiting, and I hesitated. I grunted in annoyance as I took the full ammo clip out and tossed the gun at his feet, refusing to hand it to him.
"And the ammo." He said, still holding out his hand.
I thought of an idea, and couldn't help but smile at myself and smirk at Negan. I leaned in close to him, making him grin, and whispered something in his ear.
"Go find it." I said.
I then backed up and threw the ammo clip over the fence, and it disappeared somewhere into the forest. Negan followed it, and then looked at me surprised.
I fake smiled at him and began walking away. I couldn't stand to be near Negan for one more second.
"You are so hot!" Negan called out to me.
I just raised my hand behind me, flipping him off. I didn't want to look at him, but mostly I didn't want to see Daryl.
He could barely look at me. Negan terrified him. I could only imagine what horrible things they've been doing to him for the past week almost. I just shook my head at what Daryl has become. I couldn't help but think that the Daryl I knew was gone. I feel like I've lost him, one of my only reasons to live. Negan took my husband from me... and I wasn't going to let that go.
