We were hiking back in the woods when Rick stopped all of a sudden.
"We need to split up and cover more ground. I'll go this way." He said. "You guys search that way." He pointed west and started walking east.
I jogged over to his side, and he turned around and stopped.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
"I'm not letting you go alone. I may be a little slow but you need someone to watch your back." I convinced.
He nodded in agreement and then Carl ran over.
"Dad, can I go? I want to help find Sophia too." He begged.
Lori hesitated and Rick sighed. "You listen to every word your father and Kelley say? Got it Carl?" Lori said.
He nodded quickly and Lori hugged him. "Okay. Go." She said.
We started walking and parted ways with the rest of the group. I was walking behind them, keeping a look out for any walkers. Eventually I did happen to notice that Daryl was walking behind us.
"Rick. Hold up." I said and held up my hand.
He turned around and saw that Daryl was walking over to us.
"Do the others know you left?" Rick asked, and Daryl nodded.
Rick turned around and kept walking with Carl. I looked over at Daryl with annoyance. "What are you doing?" I asked.
"I'm not leaving you alone out here when you can barely walk." He said.
"I can walk." I responded back, but at that moment I stumbled.
Daryl quickly wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me up, helping keep me steady.
"Sure." He smirked. "You can walk."
I chuckled and playfully pushed him. He smirked at me again and then let go of my waist.
"Wait." Rick said and paused.
We all stood still and saw he was watching a deer that was standing alone in the middle of a small clearing. Carl was smiling and Rick allowed him to go try and pet it. I snuck over to Rick's side and watched Carl.
It was quiet, too quiet, and the deer was just standing there.
"Rick." I said. "I don't-"
"Kelley he's okay. Let him be happy." Rick said.
Carl outstretched his hand to pet it and it looked at him. Bud stalked over to my side and let out a low growl. I heard a twig snap behind the deer and I tensed up. I had a bad feeling about this.
BANG!
A gunshot ranging throughout the forest.
"No!" I yelled and automatically ran after Carl.
I ran in front of him as quickly as my leg would let me and tried to stop the bullet from hitting him. The bullet went through my side and knocked me to the ground. I heard a thud behind me and saw Carl also fall to the ground.
"Carl!" Rick yelled. "Oh no!!" Rick cried and ran to his son's side.
Daryl ran up to my side and automatically put pressure on my wound. I screamed and squirmed in pain. I've dealt with different types of pain before, but I've never been shot before.
"Oh God, Kell. You're gonna be okay. Just breathe. Okay Kell." He said and held the pressure.
I grabbed his arm with my hand and looked him in the eyes. I then moved my hand on top of his that was covering my wound. My blood covered our hands and I saw the worry in his eyes. I saw that change when a large man walked out of the woods with a gun. Bud stood protectively by me and barked menacingly at him. Daryl grabbed his crossbow and aimed it at him.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." He stuttered and raised his hands.
Rick looked at him and aimed his pistol.
"Wait! Please I-I have a doc. He can fix this. Please follow me. He can help." The man pleaded.
Rick and Daryl looked at each other and knew they had no other choice. He picked up Carl, who was luckily unconscious, and began following the man. Daryl picked me up and I cried in pain.
"I'm sorry." Was all Daryl said when he ran with me in his arms.
I felt myself losing consciousness and felt sick from the significant loss of blood. They finally reached a clearing and saw a farm house in the distance. The man stopped because he was out of breath.
"Is that it!?" Rick yelled. "Is that it?!"
"Yes." The man panted and waved him on.
Daryl held me tighter and ran past the man, and Bud was sprinting in front of him. I closed my eyes and when I next opened them, Daryl was running up the steps of a porch. Both Rick and Daryl were breathing heavy from running and carrying us.
"Get them inside. Lay them down." I heard an older man's voice order.
Daryl walked into the house and stood in the doorway, not knowing what to do. My vision started to blur and I was fading in and out of consciousness.
"Maggie, help the young lady. I got the boy." The same voice shouted from down the hallway.
"Come with me." A female's voice said to Daryl.
He shifted me in his arms to get a better grip and I groaned in pain. Daryl quickly kissed my forehead and followed the woman. He entered the room and laid me on the bed.
I realized my breathing was fast and my pulse was racing. I was in so much pain and I felt my body going into shock. I looked up at the ceiling and was frozen in pain. I felt the lady lift up my shirt and look at where I got shot.
"The bullet went straight through. I just have to disinfect the area and patch her up." She said.
She grabbed some peroxide and gauze from a bag and looked at us. Daryl grabbed my hand and I looked over at him. He looked back at me with his worried eyes, because he didn't know what to do.
"Now, this is going to sting." She said.
Then she pour the peroxide on my wound.
"No! Owwww!" I cried.
I was moving around in pain and Daryl held me down while the lady kept cleaned my wound. The burning sensation was unbearable. I could hear my own heartbeat, and my chest got really heavy. Then instantly everything went silent, and everything went black.

I slowly opened my eyes and saw light rays shining through the window. I took a deep breath and felt the pain in my abdomen. I looked over and saw Daryl sleeping in a chair next to the bed, and his hand was intertwined with mine. I tried to sit up but groaned in pain.
Daryl instantly woke up and looked at me with worry in his eyes.
"It's okay. I'm okay." I said and squeezed his hand.
My voice was hoarse from me screaming and crying, and I held my throat. Daryl quickly handed me a glass of water, and I drank it all.
He leaned in, cupped my cheek with one hand, and looked me in the eyes.
"I'm glad you're okay." He said and kissed me.
He sat next to me on the bed and hugged me tight. I hugged him back and he sighed deeply.
"I thought I was gonna lose you." He whispered.
I chuckled and rubbed his back.
"You can't get rid of me that easy Dixon."
