Chapter 59 - Infinite (Part Two)

Amy slowly opened the tattered door that sealed a handful of Alliance fighters and fortunate citizens inside of a fallout shelter. Her eyes were first drawn to the withered ground in front of her. Her gaze moved along the foreground of the torn city, with the door creaking open more and more as she did. The more the city came into her field of view, the more horrified she had become. After taking full notice of Infinite's aftermath, she stepped out of the shelter and helplessly dropped to her knees, with a heavy stream of tears flowing from her eyes afterwards.

Espio noticed the distraught hedgehog, he set his hand on her shoulder to try and get her attention. Amy quickly snapped her head toward Gadget, attempting to hide her tears and to keep her posture strong and calm.

"Everything is destroyed." she said with a slight quiver in her voice. "There's nothing left. Nothing at all."

"I just hope that Sonic and some of the others survived." said Espio, hanging his head down and fighting back tears of his own.

Amy quickly jumped up and gripped Espio by both of his arms. His mentioning of Sonic had triggered more worrying feelings in her, among the tensity she'd already felt as a result of the apocalyptic setting she had found herself in.

"Sonic! We have to go find him!" the anxious hedgehog screamed while shaking the poor chameleon like a doll.

"Yes, we definitely should! But would you be so kind as to let me go?"

Amy, unaware of her own strength, accidentally tosses Espio back into the shelter, causing him to collide with Vector. Amy gasped at the humorous occurrence.

"Oh my Chaos! I'm so sorry!"

"It's fine." assured Espio as him and Vector rose to their feet. "But yes, we should absolutely go out and look for other survivors. Before that thing shows up again."

In direct response to Amy and Espio's orders, the shelter was emptied of the Alliance members whom occupied it while the civilians, along with Big and Cream, stayed inside to ensure their safety. The door was shut and locked again to ensure that. Amy, the Chaotix and Gadget wandered aimlessly throughout the hollow shell of what was once a booming city. The dense clouds of vapor made it hard to see more than a few feet in front of them, along with making the simple act of breathing a slight challenge as well.

But despite the harsh conditions of the environment, finding some survivors was too big of a task to let a little smoke get in their way. After walking for a couple of minutes, the barren silence was interrupted by distant chatter that seemed to be emanating from some familiar voices. But to Amy, one particular voice stood out and was immediately recognized, quickly raising her hopes up.

"Sonic!" she called out. Sonic was able to hear this above the conversation taking place between him and a few others, so he quickly ran right to where the voice came from.

The two hedgehogs collided into a passionate hug, followed by an equally passionate kiss. Before the two could further engage in sensual activities, Shadow jumped in and broke the two apart to remind them of what's more important right now.

"I hate to butt in, but he's still out there somewhere, and we need to stay focused at all times. Understand?"

"I don't quite know if he's still 'out there.'" pouted Sonic, who wasn't too pleased with Shadows interruption. "I mean, from the looks of things, he abdorbed that weapons power and...nuked himself?"

"You sounded pretty uncertain just now."

"Alright alright, I don't know what happened to him. I have no idea."

"That's exactly why we need to stay focused. I'm assuming that he acquired that things power."

"Whelp, only one way to find out!"
