Chapter 5 - A Future of Oblivion

Sonic and Tails had left earlier that morning and were heading for Eggman's old headquarters in order to look for valuable gear and gadgets they could use in future conflicts if they ever did arose. Tails being the tech heavy prodigy that he is was eager to get a closer look at Eggman's technology and possibly implement them into his own arsenal.

When they had arrived, it looked even more deserted than how it was after they had defeated Eggman. Machine parts and busted up weaponry lied scattered throughout the abandoned base. Looking through all of the remnants seemed tedious to Sonic, but to Tails, it was anything but.

When they began searching through the rubble, Tails booted up Eggman's old computer, which contained data files for several various projects that were never finished, developed, or even started, as well as the files to every machine of Eggman's they have defeated. This gave Tails the perfect opportunity to see what he might've been planning if he ever tried to retaliate.

"Sonic, take a look at this." said Tails pointing to the monitor.

"Find anything of interest?" said Sonic.

"You can say that." replied Tails.

Sonic stared at the monitor with great curiosity, "Well, what exactly am I looking at?"

"You are looking at the data files for each and every asset to Eggman's army. Badniks, the E-series robots, Metal Sonic. Every machine Eggman ever built, they're all here. Eggman may have been an unforgivably vile man, but I'd be lying if I said he didn't have some rather genius ideas."

"What exactly are you getting at? I'm not exactly some big brained genius here." said Sonic, confused by Tails' rambling.

"I'm going to download these files and transfer them to..."

Just as Tails was about to finish what he was going to say, the computer crashes and shuts down.

"Nevermind," said Tails with clear dissapointment in his voice.

"I'm going to try and boot this old thing back up, go look around for some useful materials."

"Hey, who said you get to make the rules?" asked Sonic in a surprised, jokey tone.

"Oh hehe, sorry," Tails replied, "got kinda carried away I guess. What do you want to do then?"

"Oh, I guess I'll just look around for some useful materials."

"Fair enough."

Just at that very moment, a faint, scratching sound can be heard coming from somewhere within the base. Sonic and Tails got into their fighting stances, not knowing what's coming their way. The one creating this disturbance crawls out from the darkness and appears to be someone Sonic and Tails recognize. It was Orbot.

"Oh, thank goodness, it's just Orbot," said Tails with a relieved tone.

Orbot tries desperately to get up to try and fight the two, "You...killed...Eggman and Cubot. You will pay."

Sonic and Tails look unintimidated, as anyone would if they were being threatened by Orbot. But just as Orbot was about to throw a single punch, a huge ball of fire hits him directly from above and Orbot is now finished for sure. Two familiar faces then float down right in front of Sonic and Tails.

"Howdy Blaze." greeted Sonic.

"I'm here too." groaned Silver.

"And you too! How could I forget about the inferior hedgehog?" said Sonic in a joking manner, "Anyway, thanks for the assist, not that I needed it or anything. And how have you been? It's been ages since we've last spoke."
