Thousands.
There were at least three thousand androids all posing a threat to the Alliance, and that was just a mere estimate. Never before had Sonic, along with everybody else fighting alongside him, had ever been this outnumbered before. It was absolute madness. But no matter the circumstance, they each had to pour every ounce of vitality they had to ensure the safety of their friends, their family, their own lives, but most significantly of all, their entire planet. A failure in this battle would definitely secure a victory for the Eggman Empire, and the absolute fall of Mobius. The fate of an entire planet hung from a thread so thin and withered that it would come apart at any given moment.
Shadow was knocked into a nearby wall, its fragility caused whatever bricks had remained to collapse on top of the ebony colored hedgehog. Stubborn and furious, he immediately got back up and swung a Chaos Spear across his body, creating a shockwave effect that had eliminated those once lucky androids. Afterward, Shadow noticed Sonic a couple feet away. He swiftly sliced through a barricade of androids in order to join up with him, seeing as he were alone and assumedly in need of assistance.
Sonic was holding his own pretty well, although he didn't have the eyes in the back of his head and never saw the androids lurking behind him. But before said androids could strike the unaware hedgehog, Shadow swooped in and quickly took care of them. The two exchanged friendly gestures before returning to the combat.
"So...this is quite a number, huh?" Sonic had asked in a humorous manner as he and Shadow stayed busy in the carnage, standing back to back.
"Man, you never cease to crack jokes, huh?" Shadow groaned with an annoyed tone, though, deep down inside, he truly admired just how confident Sonic was. "Even at a time such as this?"
Sonic roundhouse kicked a trio of androids before turning his head toward Shadow, an overly confident, swaggering expression had stayed glued to his face all the while.
"Of course. As always."
Shadow couldn't help but give a quiet chuckle, impressed with his friends tenacity. Sonics once smug look had plummeted to a frown when he looked over to the right and noticed Amy in dire peril. She was all on her own, with nothing but her worn out hammer by her side. Sonic needed to help out his significant other, fast, or else her fate would be sealed.
Sonic charged up his trademark spindash, grinding the surrounding androids into minerals, before unleashing an incredible amount of speed to take out each and every android surrounding his loved one in a hurry, before something seriously horrible could happen to her. Following her saviors timely assistance, Amy dropped to her knees and panted heavily. Her breathing was slow, but composed, but her body was aching horribly. Sonic could not have possibly showed up at a better time.
"Thank you...so much." said Amy as her breathing grew more stable and she finally regained the strength to rise back to her feet.
"You're welcome, as always." Sonic said softly. "Now please stand back while I take care of these guys. I don't want you to get hurt."
Amy hoisted her hammer and readied herself into an offensive position.
"I'm sorry, Sonic, but I can't just stand back. I have to keep fighting, no matter how tired or hurt I may be. This battle is too important for anyone to just sit on the sidelines."
"Understandable." replied Sonic, his confidence returning. "Just try not to get hurt, aight? You're too important to me."
"Aw, Sonic!" Amy flustered, her cheeks growing a bright red as she swatted a couple androids away. "Don't get me all blushy in a time like this! By the way, when this is all over, you and I are going on the greatest date either of us could imagine."
