Everything seemed to be heading in the right direction from here on out. Eggman was being delivered to his final resting place, the war was officially finished, and Sonic and the others have finally returned to living regular, care free lives. As you may know, it had been quite some time since the gang was able to take it easy and let loose for a couple of days. Well now it was finally that time. Sonic, Amy and Tails returned to their home in Station Square, Team Chaotix returned to their normal detective routines, and the surviving soldiers of the Alliance went back to their loving families. It seemed as if peace and tranquility were finally at hand.

The notorious Dr. Eggman wasn't so lucky however. Sonic had decided to inprison him as opposed to ending his life. As ridiculous as it may have seemed to others, Sonic had decided that it would be best for Eggman to live out the rest of his days in absolute punishment by way of a small, dark and cramped solitary cell at Prison Island. Perhaps this fate would be worse than death.

And Eggman has almost no chance of escaping the heavily guarded penitentiary. As there are not only cameras inside of his cell, but armed guards surrounding the outside of it. As well as several devices, including thermal and X Ray detectors that'll track down any sight of him if he does manage to break out of his cell.

And Eggman can't rely on outside forces to rescue him either. Fighter jets, tanks, powerful robots, and many other deadly forces guard the facility all day at all costs. So it feels pretty safe to say that Eggman isn't going to liberate himself from the prison anytime soon. Everyone on Mobius had full confidence that the evil doctor was now done for, and that world peace was finally a reality.

Mere hours after Sonic had attacked Eggman, the doctor was being brought to Prison Island where he will stay indefinitely for the rest of his life. The guards on both the helicopter that brought him there, as well as the guards in the prison, all took turns in beating the doctor senselessly for all of the horrible crimes that he had committed for the past several years. They each got their turn in giving Eggman what he rightfully deserved before throwing him in his cell.

Eggman had sat in the cold, pitch black room for what had felt like weeks. He just lied there motionless, without a single thought in his mind, like deadweight. The only food he ever ate was a small portion of undercooked gruel once a day. The food the other prisoners recieved was like an Easter Sunday dinner compared to what Eggman had to eat.

But Eggman refused to eat anything that they had given him, not because it was hardly even edible, but because Eggman was deliberately starving himself so that he may finally pass on. He thought that he no longer had any reason or will to live after his recent defeat. The once eager and optimistic doctor had lost all hope.

Meanwhile at Station Square, Sonic, Tails and Amy were enjoying themselves after several long, grueling wars, and were finally able to kick back and relax. Tails was working on a power couplet that had been fried during the battle of Angel Island. Amy was cooking dinner, and Sonic was just relaxing on the couch and thinking intensely.

"Dinner's almost done you two! Just gotta let it cook for a little longer," Amy called out.

"Finally!" exclaimed Tails, "I'm starving. I haven't eaten at all since yesterday morning."

Tails continued working on his repairs, "Hey, with Eggman out of the picture, I now have all the time in the world to repair and improve my gadgets. I mean, just look at this power couplet, it's all fried up like a pothead's brain cells."

Tails looked over to Sonic with a huge grin, hoping that he would laugh at his joke, but alas, Sonic didn't even acknowledge it.

"Too lame?" Tails asked in a dissapointed tone.

Sonic cocked his head up and looked towards Tails and fake laughed awkwardly.

"Ah, comedy's never really been my fortè," said Tails as he went back to work.

"Alright, dinner's ready!" Amy called out.

Tails instantly shot up and quickly flew towards the dinner table and sat down.

"Well someone's hungry," exclaimed Amy.

"Trust me, I could eat this entire roast if I could," replied Tails.

"Well, we gotta save some for Sonic." Amy looked out into the living room and noticed Sonic hadn't moved a muscle.

"Speaking of Sonic, he sure is slow to the dinner table, how ironic." Amy called out his name again.

This startled Sonic, he then walked slowly towards the table and took a seat.

Amy felt concerned for Sonic as he hardly spoke to anybody after yesterday's victory over Eggman. Her and Tails thought he'd be jumping for joy after their triumph.

"Are you feeling okay Sonic?" she asked him.

"Yeah, I'm fine. I've just been thinking a lot since yesterday."

Amy cocked her head back in confusion, "Eggman is defeated and is going to be locked up forever. We've won for good. What could you possibly be thinking about now?"

Sonic sighed before he gave his answer, "I just think that...maybe I made a mistake."

"A mistake?" Amy inquired.

"Look at it this way, I had the perfect opportunity to finally put an end to Eggman, and instead of killing him, I just simply throw him in prison."

Amy sat next to Sonic and put his hand in his shoulder in order to comfort him, "Oh Sonic, you did what you had to. He's sentenced to suffer for all eternity. Wow, that was dark for me."

Sonic got right up and snapped at Amy, "No no no, you're not getting the big picture here. We could've ensured our safety from that bastard forever. We could've put an end to any future threats from him. What if he gets out, formulates a new diabolic plan and tries to destroy Mobius again?" He then starts speaking in a much softer tone, "What if he actually succeeds? It'll not only be my fault but it could've easily been avoided."

Tails and Amy stared at Sonic in shock as he was strangely out of character here.

Sonic took a huge sigh, "Can't you see? I'm a coward."

Amy walks up to Sonic and attempts to comfort him once again, "No Sonic, you're not. Whether or not your decision was a mistake is debatable, but one thing's for sure. If he ever breaks out, we'll be ready for whatever he throws at us, and we'll kick his ugly misshapen ass just like we always do. I know you feel guilty, and I totally see where you're coming from, hell, if it were me instead of you calling the shots 'round here, I'd probably feel the exact same way. But you need to understand that Eggman has never defeated us, what makes you think he can now? I hope you can understand."

Sonic's grief stricken frown turned into a bright smile, "I do understand, thank you Amy."

Amy began to blush, "Well, it's no biggie really, you know I'll always be there for you, and vice versa of course." She then turns her attention to the roast on the table, "Now eat up, I spent all day making this dinner special for us so I hope you two enjoy it."

Back on Prison Island, Eggman had been sitting alone in the dark for a couple of days now. Without a single thought in his mind and with no hope left for the future, he had sat motionless in the dark for what had felt like weeks.

But on one faithful evening, the cameras and motion capturing technology surrounding the doctor had all ceased function simultaneously. The doctor looked around in confusion, not knowing how all of the high tech around him all of a sudden stopped working. Luckily, the guards monitoring the cameras had fallen asleep before they all shut down.

Eggman's confusion drastically increased as a portal opened right in front of him. And out stepped a mysterious figure whom Eggman had never seen before.

"Come Doctor," said the unknown character, "we haven't got much time."

Eggman, after some hesitation, agreed to follow him through the portal, whoever he was and wherever they were going was unknown to Eggman, but one thing's for sure, he was now a free man.
