Chapter 30 - An Alliance Apart

With the Eggman Empire taking control of Mobius, it's citizens were either killed, enslaved, or they went into hiding. This can also be said for the members of the Alliance. They've all become separated from one another, not having even the slightest clue of their current location. The only ones who have been reunited were Blaze, Silver, Tangle and Whisper. But as for everyone else, only God knows where they are. And with the current circumstances surrounding them, reuniting the entire Alliance again is absolutely crucial if they are to liberate the planet from Eggman's rule.

Amy and Knuckles had the fortune of finding each other as they were on the run and looking for any help they could find. The only way the Alliance were going to regroup again would be through sheer coincidence, for any sort of communications between them have been permanently disabled for that exact reason. So the journey of finding the rest of the Alliance would have to be on foot. The task would certainly be one of the hardest they've ever faced, but the Alliance had always mustered enough optimism to push themselves through even the toughest of times. They always had this gut feeling that victory would be theirs and that they would free their beloved planet, despite how dire the situation has become.

The two had travelled almost restlessly for the past few days, with hardly any food while suffering the unbearable summer heat, not to mention having absolutely no leads on where to find any of their comrades. But despite all of this, they were surprised and grateful that they haven't been captured by the Empire yet considering how much land they've covered. And after all of that trekking, they came across Apotos, a city currently under Rough and Tumble's rule. Eggman was generous enough to give his servants different sanctions to rule over. For instance, Metal Sonic got Soleanna and Starline got Shamar.

"So...this is Apostos, huh?" asked Knuckles as him and Amy hid on a cliff edge that overlooked the city. It looked absolutely gorgeous from their view. Well...would have if it weren't overrun by the Empire with two dimwitted skunks ruling it.

"Sure is." responded Amy with a deep sigh. "Sonic and I were going to have a nice, romantic vacation here at some point, but now look at it. Any sort of love this city once had has been completely wiped away by ugly hatred and tyranny."

"Aw, don't tell me you're gonna cry again." groaned Knuckles. "You just did like, ten minutes ago."

"Oh, I'm sorry, it's not like there's a fuck ton of pressure being put on me or anything." snapped Amy. "I had this leader role forced onto me, only to have my entire squad completely separated within a goddamn week, we don't even know if any of them are still alive or not." Amy's tone grew from enraged to depressed as she frowned and turned away from Knuckles to look towards the dead city. "And on top of that, all of my favorite places and ones I've always dreamed of visiting are all but destroyed. And I can't help but feel like it's my fault, that I wasn't a good enough leader."

After a long pause with the two just staring blank slated at the city, Knuckles spoke up to try and comfort Amy. "Listen Amy, none of this is your fault. I don't think it's any of our faults to be exact, not even Sonic's, despite him running away. Seeing as how the world completely fell apart so quickly, I think that Eggman got his hands on some...sort of weapon that really helped his ass out. I mean...weren't we winning at first? Then all of a sudden, all hell broke loose and boom! Now we're all separated and every city on Mobius is gone. Something had to have happened, and the more I think about it, the more it frightens me."

"Damn Knuckles, you really just admitted you were afraid, didn't you?" smirked Amy.

"N--no I didn't." exclaimed Knuckles, refusing to admit his fears.

"You literally just said, "the more it frightens me". It's ok to be afraid man, especially of...this."

"Pfft, I bet you're scared." scoffed Knuckles.
