(Hang with me. HUGE jump here. We're going all the way to 2003, when they go to LA.)
"Sakari," I call, hearing her run down the stairs. She runs to me and I put on her leash, hearing a knock on the door. I open it and see Rick there, smiling.
"Good morning Rapunzel," he says. I had exceeded my goal, and it's now a little over 95 feet long.
"Not for long. When we get there, this is all getting chopped off and donated," I say.
He takes my few boxes of clothes, shoes and valuables and loads them in the back of the U-Haul. He grabs my teddy bear and puts it at the back, holding out Sakari's chew rope. I had to get a new one because Sakari had tore the first one to pieces. She takes it in her mouth and hops in the back part of the cab, laying behind my seat. I take my hair with me and hop in after her, Rick closing the door after I sit.
"Thank you good sir," I say. I buckle as he starts the truck, buckling as he does so. Only a master driver can achieve such skill.
"Your welcome good miss," he says.
He drives off and I see Claire with Ari walking into my house, waving goodbye to me. I stick my hand out the window and wave goodbye, rolling it back up after. It's January, so Rick turns on the heater to keep the three of us warm.
"How's the guys? Are they tolerable," he asks. We became friends I think close to '01, and we've been writing ever since.
"Yeah. But I think Corey's going a little off the rails this album 'cause he doesn't think right. Just like me," I say.
"I heard you got some tats last year? How many," he asks.
"12. I got a friendship tattoo on my thigh from Claire and Ari, a heart on my wrist, the tribal S on my neck, another heart on my wrist, a tattoo on my forearm, a third heart on my wrist, another friendship tattoo with Sid that's a music note, a fourth heart on my wrist, a quote on my side, the classic 'Your Name' on my ass, a semicolon behind my ear and the 'I Love You' hand sign on my shoulder," I say. I want to get more, but that'll have to wait until I get settled in.
"Sounds like you're turning into one of the guys," he jokes.
"To be honest, I hope not. I mean, they're nice to me, they love me like a sister, they love my friends, they love Sakari, they basically love everything I do and say, but they have more tragic lives than me," I say.
"You're right about that. So, I heard about you getting promised, who's the special man," he asks.
"Who told you," I ask.
"One of the guys. They told me that I could only say that," he says.
"I'll let that slide. For now. But if you want me to go down this rabbit hole, I will," I say.
"You going to turn into Alice," he asks.
"Yep," I say.
-L.A.-
I kept talking about my dream wedding the whole way there, and I told him I would be inviting from both Bruce and my families, including relatives and friends. He parks the truck and hops out, making me hop out as well. Sakari wakes up from her nap and hops out, holding the rope in her mouth. She lets me take boxes with Rick and she walks next to me, sitting in front of the open door to keep it open. I walk in and Rick tells me where the stairs are so I can put my stuff in my room.
"I'll set your stuff by the stairs," he says.
"Thanks," I say.
He goes back out and Sakari lets the door close until a crack is open, and I walk up the stairs to my room. It's the last one in the hallway, the door facing the looker instead of it being on the sides. I open it and see a beautiful queen bed with pretty deep purple sheets and a black comforter, a giant white flur-de-lis embroidered in the comforter. Rick knew I didn't like pillows, but he kept one deep purple pillow for me to cuddle with at night.
"I didn't know I'd be this surprised at my bedroom," I mumble to myself.
I walk in and set my clothes boxes by the dresser and closet, peeking into the closet since it doesn't have a door. It's larger than what I imagined, with a little sitting stool to put on your shoes in the middle. There's a vanity desk at the end, with a big mirror and a smaller magnified mirror for more precise touches.
"Damn, I feel like a princess," I say.
I walk out and wonder where they guys are since it's dead quiet talking-wise. I can hear Sakari lightly panting, but that's it. I haul the next load of boxes up, Rick helping out by taking my teddy bear up along with my valuables box. Everything breakable's been wrapped up, so it won't break if dropped. I made sure of that.
"I hope you like your room," he says as he sets the bear in the corner by a bookshelf filled to the brim with books on medical stuff.
"Did you pick it," I ask.
"No. The guys reserved this room for you because it's like this. They, as of what I heard, wanted you to feel like you're loved here," he says.
"I need to find them to give them a giant hug because I love them for doing this," I say.
