We've talked about this topic so many times and she still doesn't listen. Toph needs to spend more time with the girls and quit her stupid favoritism. It's bothering the hell out of me.
I want the both of them happy, and I can't do that if she keeps on taking digs at Lin! Can't she see?! All her daughter wants is her approval. I've tried showing Lin I care and I'm here to support her, but I'm obviously not enough. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who cares about keeping this family together.
Suyin storms past the apartment door, chucking her bag on the floor carelessly. The young girl steps over to the kitchen peeling herself a banana.
"Hi mom.", she mumbles before taking a bite out of her fruit and glancing over at me from the kitchen counter.
I hum lowly, disappointed by her actions,"I heard what happened and I'm sure you'll come to realize the gravity in your mistake and you learn from it."
The young girl chews on her food awkwardly as is she's afraid to talk aloud, but builds up the courage to do it anyways.
"Who's side are you on?", she asks carefully while making her way over to the couch I'm rested upon.
I shrug my shoulders while reaching over for my coffee mug"No side, you both could have handled the situation better, but that doesn't excuse what you did. I know your mom didn't reprimand you much for it, but you really hurt Lin. She's gonna have a scar on her face for the rest of her life. But still no matter how it may seem, I believe you were both in the wrong. "
Suyin grumbles a bit, rolling her eyes with crossed arms. She huffs and makes a break for her room. A deep sigh blows past my lips just as I bring the coffee mug back up to my lips. I sip on the hot beverage thoughtfully, visiting Lin is probably good idea. I'm sure she's looking for someone else to vent to. Tenzin's a great kid, but he's not the best listener. Plus, I know Toph won't do it and I'm sure Lin would like some company.
What should I do about Su though? She still thinks I'm picking favorites. I know deep down I am biased, but I try not to it show in my actions and make sure I connect with both of them.
My hand falls to my forehead concentrating on my thoughts. Any hopes of focus break the second Toph steps through the door way.
Two hands rest on her shapely hips. She's not dressed in her usual armor but in a white tank top and black baggy sweats. l take another calming sip of my tea, controlling the temptations her exposed body emits. Nows not the time these thoughts, especially since my only tie to this family may be loosened at any moment. She keeps her body pointed straight ahead, facing the hallway that leads into the different bedrooms.
"We need to talk." , her emotionless tone warns me of what's to come.
Her voice resonates in my mind as I calmly digest the possible meanings behind this talk. My shoulders rise sharply from a deep intake of air, trying to make myself as unreadable as possible. With a gentle hum, I nod, sliding off the couch and following her to her office.
Toph shuts the door behind us and locks it with the flick of her finger. Still as expressionless as before, she settles herself down in her office chair. Her legs spread comfortably and her forearms sprawl out on the arm rest. She press the soles of her bare feet onto the ground, watching me through her seismic sense.
A playful smirk crawls across lips as she pats the top of her desk as signal for me to sit top of it. The dark wood table's still messily cleared of her 'paperwork' from our last visit together in this room. I manage to keep my cool, though I linger near the entrance to her office, a bit weary about getting close to the desk.
