Some of you guys requested a part 2, so I delivered it. Sorry for the long wait. I tried my best to get this done while doing schoolwork and being trapped in the Dominican Republic for a month without wifi because my dad lives in the boondocks. I hope you enjoy it!
During the late hours of noon, Kya barges into Air Temple Island with an arm covering her face. No one notices her arrival, despite the rapid clatter of her shoes padding against the tiled floor and the echoing slams of her bursting through doors. By memory, she stumbles down the decorated hall to the dining room. She shuffles past the open arched way. The heartfelt gasps of her youngest brother and his wife greet her soon as she enters the room.
"Kya! You're back," her brother happily exclaims. Caught in the middle of serving himself a plate of food, he sets aside the yellow bowl of white rice on his lap. He falls sideways, catching himself with his hands as he scrambles to stand up from the floor.
Kya's attention flickers from Tenzin's broad shoulders, overgrown eyebrows, and lengthy beard to the unfamiliar woman sitting beside his feet with a child cradled to her chest. The woman dressed similarly to Tenzin, wearing a yellow and red robe. Kya's eyebrows twist together as she glances down at the toddler: the cutest entity Kya's ever been blessed to see. No one could deny the child's adorable nature: chubby cheeks, big brown eyes, and a perfect button nose.
The painful pulsing against Kya's skull doubles tenfold, taking in the unfamiliar scene with a sharp breath.
He explains calmly, "Kya, this is my wife, Pema, and our daughter Jinora, your niece."
"Hi! It's nice to meet you. I'm sorry for barging in. It's been a while since I've been home, and I need to talk to you, Tenzin," Kya apologizes, waving toward Pema with a tight smile. Though, she wonders what happened to Lin. Her sister-in-law responds with a similar course of action, though her lips curl naturally.
The last time Kya saw him, he hugged Lin to his side. Whatever. Better things plague her mind. Plus, she can ask Lin later if anything.
"That's alright. The Temple is your home too," Tenzin excuses, stepping toward his sister with an open hand. His darkened eyes tell her everything she needs to know.
He already knows that Y/n left.
"So, you saw Y/n?" he questions as his sister takes his hand, his voice soft and understanding.
"No, not yet, at least. I went to our apartment, and everything was gone, Tenzin. She even left the- her- this," she gags, lifting the skillfully crafted betrothal necklace.
The air-bending master meets his sister's gaze sorrowfully. Tears bubble at the corner of Kya's eyes as he embraces her. She falls apart within his hold, pressing her face against his shoulder as she weeps uncontrollably.
Part of him feels guilty. He never ended his friendship with Y/n and even welcomed her new family into his life. It's weird and complicated, but he understands his friend's hurt. Kya left him too. Her baby brother. She stopped sending letters to him too. He mourned her too. With that ounce of understanding, he couldn't abandon Y/N. He couldn't blame her for moving on, for marrying someone that treasures her wholeheartedly and wouldn't jump ship at the drop of a hat.
How can he begin to explain this to his sister, though?
He turns back to face his wife, who nods understandingly, ushering him to talk to his sister privately with a shooing motion.
Tenzin gradually detaches an arm from his sister's side and inches his way toward the exit with his other hand wrapped around her back. She cries into his shoulder throughout the entire journey to the common area, her shoulders shaking ferociously. At this time of day, acolytes rarely venture into the room. Most of them take this time to eat or prepare for upcoming lessons. He settles the pained woman into a comfortable, red lazy boy, the one their father most often used. Kya pays no mind to this fact. Instead, she curls her arms around her body and squeezes herself tight, rocking back and forth sporadically. The chair creeks under the movement as it tips.
