Sulking on the beach beside Azula, I stare off into the water, watching the waves crash against the shore and kids run along it screaming. Zuko and Mai are somewhere doing things I'm not sure I wanna know about, and Ty Lee has a group of guys following her around.
I sigh through my nose, turning to face the fire-bender, "We should do something. Everyone else is doing something, and I'm bored."
She tears her focus away from Ty Lee and on to me, "What do you suggest?"
I grin at her, "Well, we could go swimming or go to the arcade or maybe just take a walk. I feel like I never actually spend time with you, so I wanna take the time to that."
Her eyes wander from my face, down to my lips, and back up to my eyes in deep thought. She shrugs, "Very well then, let's go do it."
I grip onto her forearm in surprise, "Wait! Really?"
She tugs her arm away with a casual nod, "Sure, why not?"
This is so uncharacteristic of her, but I guess she's getting bored too. I help her up off the beach towel and take her by the hand, guiding her down to the water. I bob with the water comfortably while Azula stands beside me stiffly.
"What's wrong?" My voice drops in genuine concern.
She sighs, "I don't know- I just-"
I cut her off by pulling her down farther into the water with me. She squeals a bit in surprise and tries to hide it behind a feigned cough. I laugh at her adorable reaction, laying her on her back to float. She lets me keep a hand to her back for support, but she doesn't really need it though.
My lips press together in a soothing hum, "Just relax for a bit. Your body's so tense from all the stress you put yourself through."
Her eyes flutter shut, letting the cool water wrap around her and the sun's rays heat the front side of her body. Despite trying to break my gaze, I can't help but observe her beautiful visage: almond-shaped eyes, pointed nose, full lips, and defined jawline. She cracks an eye open, conscious of my wandering gaze.
"It's hard to 'relax' when you're staring at me." She grumbles half-heartedly.
I giggle at her reaction, rubbing my thumb over her bareback, "I'm sorry. You're just super pretty."
Her lips scrunch together uncertainly, her eyes widening in surprise. The expression might as well be the cutest thing I've ever seen.
"Of course I'm pretty. My maids spend hours making sure I look perfect." She boasts.
I run my hand up and down her back unconsciously, chuckling in amusement, "I really admire your confidence, Azula."
A vibrant tint of red spreads across the top of her cheeks. I pretend to not notice it though, she'll only get upset, and our time together will be cut short.
She coughs slightly before speaking, "Yes, well I-uh.."
Unable to control my amusement, I giggle at her flustered state. She sets herself up in the water, her face contorted into a vile scowl, "How dare you mock your princess!"
I suppress another giggle, placing a comforting hand upon her shoulder.
"I'm not laughing at you to be mean, Azula. I'm laughing because you just make me so happy that all I wanna do is laugh." I explain in the simplest of words.
Azula smirks in an attempt to tease me, "So I make you happy?"
I nod with a wide grin, "There's no point in denying it, but the real question is, do I make you happy or am I just another person set out to fulfill the duties you hand to them?"
