"Are you sure you don't want me to join you, Korra?" I question, leaning over to take her hands in mine.
The older girl squeezes my fingers subtly, lifting her chin to look at me better.
"I'll only be gone for a few months," Korra reassures, resting our hands on her lap.
I nod in response, knowing that nothing I could say or do will change her mind. Despite understanding this, I find myself fighting tears. The corners of my lips twitch downward, sniffing in a short spurt of air.
Sad blue eyes water, gazing over my features tenderly before raising my hand to her lips, "I'll be back. I promise."
She lets go of my hand, gradually loosening her grip before turning towards her friends. The three offer sad smiles, wishing her luck on the road to recovery as she bids them goodbye.
After saying bye to the air kids, their parents, and aunt and uncle with fond grins and tight hugs, Tenzin takes hold of her wheelchair. He locks onto the grips behind Korra, wheeling her up the ramp leading to the boat she'll take leave on.
Korra rolls up to a window, peeking at us from behind the glass. The eleven of us wave at from the docks as we line up side by side. The ship undocks, bobbing up and down slightly as it begins to set sail.
She waves back, managing to display a tiny side smile as she drifts away from the island.
Before I can even think about crying, three pairs of arms wrap around me. They trap me into a supportive embrace, supplying me with several shoulders to cry on. The four of us keep our huddled form for a while before tugging away from each other.
Surprisingly, Mako's the first to comfort me. He places a steady hand on my shoulder, squeezing the muscle as he reassures, "It'll be okay."
The firebender's brother grins at me optimistically, "Yeah! Korra's like the strongest person I know!"
I chuckle at his enthusiasm, earning approving smiles from both brothers.
"Korra can do this. She's The Avatar." Asami phrases while creeping behind me and wrapping an arm around my waist.
"You're right." I agree with the trio.
Everything will work out.

"Did she write you back?" I ask while leaning up in my friend's bed.
I keep my laying position but lift my jaw into my hands with the support of my elbows.
Asami sighs, lifting her fingers to her ears lobes, "No, but you shouldn't stress yourself out about it."
She takes her earrings out and sets the pair down on the vanity beside her door. The older woman spins around, gracefully striding to the foot of her bed. My eyes follow her movements, watching the gentle sway of her hips and the way her hair bounces with each step.
My shoulders rise and sink as I take in a deep disappointed breath in response to her confession.
The CEO crawls onto the bed, laying close beside me. She rests her head at the end of the bed so that we can eventually face each other. She turns to her side, facing me while I continue gazing forward with my head in my hands. My mind wanders for a moment, worried for my troubled girlfriend.
As if sensing my nerves, Asami lifts a hand to my bare arm. I turn my head towards her, waiting for her to say something now that she's captured my attention.
"I'm sure she's okay." She reassures, offering me a beautiful smile.
My chest swells, enamored by the soft expression. Even after working nine hours a day, she manages to make time to dote on me.
