You would think that with her ability to feel people's heart rates and know when people are lying, she would figure out that I like her. But no, she's completely clueless. I even dropped hints, and still, nothing.
I sigh, lying in my hammock high up in a random tree. The rest of the group sleeps on the ground while I take comfort up in the trees. It gets colder up here, but it's more comfortable.
Sokka's out 'hunting' even though I'm the one who racks up the most food. Toph and Aang are out working on their earth bending, and Katara's just watching them, making sure Toph doesn't take training too far.
I climb down from the tree and make my way over to help the inexperienced hunter. He has the right idea, but he executes everything wrong.
"Hey! Sokka!"
He grumbles, keeping his back turned, "What?! Can't you see I'm trying to get some food! I'm starving!"
I roll my eyes at him, crossing my arms tight against my breasts, "Let me help you. I promise to not overstep this time."
He tilts his back and sighs dramatically, "Fine."
I give him little tips and praise him when he does well. He grins happily when he finally catches a bird, wrapping his arms around me tightly.
"Thank you, you're the best!" He shouts out of excitement.
I hug him back affectionately, "It's no problem."
His cheeks flush when he notices how close we are. I don't mind since I'm used to being close with the people I care about.
He pulls away awkwardly before rubbing the back of his neck, "So um, I was wondering if we could do something together- just us two?"
I grin at him, knowing exactly where this may lead to. There's not much I can at this point. If Toph doesn't like me, there's not much I can do.
"Alright, sure, whatchu wanna do?" I answer.
He shrugs, failing to fight back a charming grin, "I don't know, we can plan it together then."
I nod along, agreeing to the terms, "Okay, we'll plan it tomorrow."
He pulls me into another quick hug before running back to camp excitedly, leaving me alone with the dead bird.

"So, you and Sokka?" Toph questions awkwardly.
I nod from my seat beside her. We're both resting upon a large rock, our feet dipped in the lake Aang and Katara are using to train. Sokka's off glancing over our world map, planning where to go next.
I shrug, "I don't really know. I mean, I know Sokka likes me, but I'm not all that into it. He is kinda cute, though."
I glance at him fumble with the map like a cutie.
Toph hums in response, "I guess, don't you think you could do better?"
I glance down at my hands before answering honestly, "I think he's the only option as of now. People don't usually like me like that."
The earth bender defends without thinking, "I like you."
I trail my eyes back up to her face. Her whole face is covered in an admirable pink.
I pinch her cheeks with a grin, "Aww...I like you too."
She slaps my hands away, "No, I mean that I have a crush on you. "
I giggle at her embarrassment, glad it's her and not me, "Toph, I knew that already and I like you back!"
Her eyes widen, lifting her head up in surprise, "Really?! Then why are you going out with Sokka?"
I shrug, "Because I didn't think you liked me."
The shorter girl laughs, "You're kidding! I was a mess every time I hung out with you!"
I rub the back of my neck while laughing along with her, "I guess I was too focused on my own nerves to realize you were nervous too. "
Katara accidentally bends a wave of water at us, effectively ruining our little moment. The blind bandit was ready to tell her off, but Sokka finishes for her.
"You got my map all wet!" He complains.
I roll my eyes at him, a fond smile forming on my lips as he pouts.
"You like him too," Toph announces from beside me.
"What?! I just told you I liked you!" I repeat.
She crosses her arm while standing up from the spot next to me.
"I just felt your heartbeat stutter at the sound of his voice!" she defends.
I roll my eyes, lifting myself up so that I'm standing too, "Not because I like him, but because I'm fond of him. I would have done the same for Katara or Aang."
She scoffs before turning to walk off, "Yeah, sure."
I turn her back around by her shoulders, leaning down to press my lips against her forehead, "I like you, Toph. I really do."
Her cheeks flush a beautiful shade of dark red.
"Sorry for overreacting." She apologizes casually.
I respond by kissing her forehead again, "It's okay. I would be upset too, Sokka is kinda hot. "
A forceful punch on my shoulder pushes me slightly to the side. I wince, holding my wounded shoulder tightly as I watch her walk away.
"Damn, that was hard."

"Oh, so we're gonna hang out?" Sokka questions as I help him set up his tent.
I frown slightly, "Yeah, I'm sorry, we can still hang out, but it can't be like that."
He rubs the back of his head thoughtfully, "Okay, so tonight we can just go hunting."
I grin at him, giving him a thumbs-up, "Sounds perfect!"
He looks like he was gonna say more, but Toph comes zooming by, wrapping her arms around my waist.
"Cool, glad you have that settled. Let's go, babe." She interrupts with a smirk on her face.
Sokka sweat drops, "Babe?"
The blind bender kisses my cheek with a nod, "Yup, and if you have a problem you-"
She's cut off by the non-bender shaking his heads and hands anxiously, "No, I have no problems."
She smirks while dragging me away from our campsite, "Good."
