"How'd it go?", I question the earth bender just as she steps into our master bathroom, still dressed in her metal armor.
Hot water showers over my head while I rinse my body of her apple and cinnamon body wash.
The younger woman sighs heavily, stripping herself of her amor and work clothes before opening the glass door that leads into our shower. She hugs me from behind, resting her chin on my shoulder.
"I really tried, I swear, but she's still upset. And I totally get it and she's right. Every time Suyin gets in trouble, I let her off the hook and make Lin look like a fool for caring about her sister's safety. This is no different expect for the fact that Lin's facing all the repercussions. I didn't know Suyin was taking actual drugs and smoking cigs. I thought she was only into weed....", she mumbles tired from her long day.
My lips part in a deep breath in, taking annoyance to her words. Lin's always left hurt by her mother's obvious favoritism. This situation just highlights that fact. Despite my agitation, I allows myself to lean against her, letting her hold up some of my weight.
In one swift motion she lets her hair down from her bun. One arm's still wrapped around my waist as she tugs the dark hair free.
Toph questions,"How was the talk with Su?"
To my surprise it went pretty well. I tried opening up with her, and telling her my experience with drugs. I even told her how her mom influenced me to become better. I explained why it was important for her to take some responsibility for what she did, but she didn't really get it until I told her how Lin's probably feeling. The immediate guilt flooded over her and flushed her face from its color. She promised to apologize to her sister and earn back some trust.
" Pretty well actually, because unlike you I don't ignore one my daughter's existence.", I take a dig at Toph teasingly, but there's a sliver of bitterness that rests upon the tip of my tongue after speaking.
The arm around my waist loosens and the warm body behind me pulls away from our embrace. I turn around to face her, reaching out for her hands.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that. I know you're trying", I apologize while lacing our fingers together.
She shakes her head slightly before leaning down and pressing our lips together in a loving peck.
"No it's okay, you're right and plus it's not like I haven't said worse things to you. If anything I deserve it.", Toph admits while lathering her body with soap and turning to face the brunt of the raining water.
My eyes narrow at her, searching for any signs of discomfort, but find none. Still skeptical, I reach out for her. My hands run along her strong back as I try to catch her attention.
She hums turning around with her hands up in her hair. The soapy bubbles from the shampoo pool around her hands and fall on the shower's floor.
"You okay?", the blind girl questions.
"I'm sorry...", I mumble again, wrapping my arms around her and cuddling up to her bare chest.
She sighs softly before washing the soap from her hands and pushing her hair back, so the the water runs the shampoo out of her hair and down her back. The younger woman pulls me close to her. A soft smile settles upon her lips just as she leans over to kiss my forehead.
"I promise it's okay.", she vows while bringing my hand up to her neck.
I nod against her chest, though I still feel unsettled by the situation.
