Wangshu Inn, the hotspot for most lovers to come stay and enjoy the peaceful scenery of Dihua Marsh by the inn's terrace. Currently, that place is where a lone yaksha stays with a mournful gaze over the endless plain. He was the last of his kind after succumbing to the darkness making lose track of who they really are.
Xiao too, once gave in to the darkness but thankfully the archon took pity on him and pulled him out from the tyrannical contract by his former master. He was reborn and yet, he still holds a grudge towards his former self. Everyday, he would look over Dihua Marsh, the place where he used to perform cruel acts by his former master. He mourned over the people whom he killed, and crushed their hopes and dreams.
He looked up and noticed the dark clouds looming over him as the winds blowing started growing harsher and harsher, a storm was brewing soon and he had to seek shelter. But instead of doing so, the yaksha hopped off the balcony of the inn and landed on the solid hard ground below, letting out a groan of pain.
The sky then started tearing up, Xiao felt raindrops fall on his head which made him run faster than he's doing. He kept running, and running until he reached the riverbanks near the Inn. It was a routine for him to stop by the same place where he heard the sound of music.
A kind of music that once made him cry as he devoured all dreams. It was being played by a wandering traveler through the use of a bamboo flute. With every note being played, Xiao felt his heartstrings were being pulled while warm tears trickled down his cheeks, falling down on the bloodstained river.
When the music stopped, the traveler looked at him and gave him the gentlest smile he had seen after so long. Xiao was surprised to see them smiling towards a bloodstained yaksha, not to mention scattered carcasses around himself. Weird enough, he felt safe around the traveler so he carefully removed his cursed mask and revealed his bloodstained face and tearful eyes. He felt vulnerable through the music that was being played, it made him remember the innocent times where he used to live such a peaceful life.
"Why.. are you not running away?" he managed to speak out, maintaining a good distance away from the traveler. "Are you not afraid of me?"
"I know your kind," the traveler replies while tucking your bamboo flute inside a worn out bag. "Yakshas managed to protect everyone from the ominous darkness surrounding the city. That is until.. each of them started to fall slowly, in the hands of karmic debt"
Their eyes travelled towards the mask on Xiao's hands, as if emphasizing the debt they're speaking of. Xiao's face darkened, he took a stronger hold on his mask and it immediately reminded him of how he got into his position in the first place. Despite his master's command to kill whoever is in his way, he has no power to kill the traveler in front of him.
