"Oh, we can't advance any further." Venti sighed. "The ruins seem to be guarded by ancient seals."
"Is this the work of Dvalin?" Paimon asked.
"No. These ruins were once part of an ancient city. Dvalin just happens to be nesting in these ruins for now. These ruins even predate the existence of the Four Winds. Mondstadt is a city without a ruler. However, before it was, it was ruled over by a tyrant." Paimon gasped. "Anyway, I'll sing you that story when we have a chance in the future."
"The markings on this seal... if my archaeological knowledge is not mistaken, this appears to be a light actuator."
"Diluc, when have you ever seen one before?" (Y/N) sweat dropped. She looked over to the mechanism he was talking about, some kind of low stone pillar with blue details and a blue stone on top of it, surrounded by three triangles in the ground. Two of them were shining blue, while one was the same color as the floor around them.
"If we retrieve and reintegrate all the parts, we should be able to get it working." he then pointed at a glowing triangle of light in the air. Aether walked up to it, and once he was close enough it started to follow behind him. Then he walked up to the stone pillar, and once close enough, the triangle floated into the stone colored shape in the ground, and it started to glow just like the other two. When the light actuator had started to function again, a blue seal appeared in the roof for a couple of seconds, before it disappeared.
"Looks like we're right. There are three more halos circling the tower..."
"There should be three more mechanisms like this one." (Y/N) finished the bard's sentence.
"I can see one from here." Jean pointed at another light actuator. "The rest must be scattered within the ruins around here. Let's go find them. Me with Diluc, Aether with Venti and... can you work alone, (Y/N)?"
"Was going to ask if I could either way." Jean nodded.
"Then let's get to work."
(Y/N) had been walking around a while, just trying to find on of the light actuator. Then she finally saw one. It was close to a ruin of something that resembled a rectangular building. Just a few meters away there was a Hilichurl camp. (Y/N) didn't even take out hr scythe, wanting to test a theory. She walked calmly up to the monsters.
Some shooters noticed her and alarmed the rest, getting ready to fire. But then they noticed her aura.
"Hilichurls might be stupid, but they can easily sense auras that are too dangerous once they have taken notice of the one with the aura. They are like any other creature in that way." the monsters slightly panicked as she got closer to them, finally deciding to leave, just in case...
"Smart." (Y/N) then noticed the glowing triangle shape in the middle of were the camp had been. She walked up to it and then it connected behind her, following her as a trail. Then another light was noticed. In the corner of her eye she saw a small wind barrier by a really high pillar, and inside it there was another fragment of light. She thought to herself.
Wind barriers like these are very easy to overcome. Just get in from the top, and it will automatically break. I wonder... if I climbed that pillar... I could wind glide down to it. Let's try.
She then started her climbing. It was high up, but she really didn't mind. In fact, it was quite refreshing.
When she reached the top she pulled out her glider, the one with a Cecilia pattern and gold stars and moons, and so light blue it seemed glowing white. She flew down and neatly laded inside the walls of the wind, before it broke within seconds. The second triangle already floated after her, so the (h/c)-haired girl went out to search for the last piece.
She found a mysterious place, with big rocks fallen by the corner of the building structure, and a few Geo slimes.
Are they protecting the fallen rocks...?
She decided to take a look at the rocks, and the slimes jumped away terrified once they saw her. She picked out her scythe, and smashed the rocks with one powerful blow. Behind it was -
You guessed it.
The last light.
Then ( finally ) she walked to the light actuator
The scene in front of her was pretty.
All the lights sank to the ground unison and the triangles in the ground lit up the same second, and then, far far away, the buildings second seal glowed. It was time to head back to it.
"Took you long enough. You're a god and yet I was here before you?"
"But you're- never mind, I won't win this fight anyhow." Venti sighed,
"How did it go?" (Y/N) asked Aether, her aura calm as she stood leaning against the wall behind her with arms folded and eye closed.
"Great I think. We found the fragments of light pretty quickly." Then, a few seconds after his comment, the last seal was lit and there were now a floor in the middle of each floor, instead of the round hole there had been. Were all the seals were placed there shined a glowing blue light through them. Soon Diluc and Jean arrived.
"The work is finally done - at least with those mechanisms."
"Let's see, Jean is here to help Mondstadt, it is her responsibility after all, but why did Master Diluc really come?"
"It's truth. I wanted it, and I could get it here."
"So, Jean for responsibility and Diluc for truth, but what about Tone-Deaf Bard?" Paimon turned to face the bard.
"Freedom. For Dvalin and Mond. But I imagine that (Y/N) didn't come just to help either, right?"
"Yeah, why did you really come?" Aether asked.
"...Safety."
"What does that mean?"
"Just as I said. Safety. For Dvalin, who needs to be safe from the Abyss. To Mond citizens, who needs safety in their own city, and to you all here... I guess that it feels like my job to make sure you all get back safely. I have the most experience after all."
"Whoa... more experience than a god? Paimon is sure that feels cool!" Paimon snickered at the thought. "That's so sweet with safety..." (Y/N) blushed slightly.
"Let's just get this over with."
Yes!
Not as short as I was worried it would turn out to be!
