"I love you," I said to him, the pure truth seeping from my lips.
                              I'd finally admitted it.
And right now, he was completely silent.
His eyes focused on mine for a second, slightly squinting, as he evaluated the situation before he responded.
I waited, chewing on my bottom lip, feeling like I'd made the biggest mistake of my life.
                              Then he finally spoke.
"I love you too," he grinned.
He pulled my head down into a head lock, his fist quickly moving against my skull and ruffling up my hair.
                              A noogie!
I knew in that instant, his reply had been one of friendship.
There was nothing else behind those simple three words.
To him that's all they were.
                              Simple.
And I knew right there, right then, I was in way over my head.
I had only one thing to do.
                              Move on.
                              "You're a great friend," I whispered.
                              Did he hear?
                              I didn't even care anymore.
                              --
                              * Two months later *
I lay back in the hotel bed, curling up under the covers.
I tried to block out the shouting sounds that were pounding through the thin hotel walls.
We'd come here specifically for Bethy and Nate's joint bachelorette party, and so far it hadn't been a good experience.
Ray and Kat were at logger heads once again.
They couldn't see eye to eye and we sometimes wondered why they were even together.
They would argue and argue, and just when you thought they'd have some hot make up sex and everything would be cool, you were sadly mistaken.
It was like they couldn't even touch each other intimately anymore.
Whenever things got this heated in an argument, Kat would leave for a few days and stay in a random hotel.
And here we were again, listening to them bicker back and forth.
Problem was, we weren't back home so she couldn't escape.
Bethy was my best friend and when she'd met Nate and came to me, gushing about how amazing he was, I knew down the line we'd be here.
Then there was Kat, our other best friend.
The three of us had been inseparable since we were 3.
When Kat had tried to steal Bethy's crayons, I'd told her off, which only left her crying.
We'd all been told off then by the teacher for not sharing, stealing instead of asking nicely and making our friends cry.
Instead of being annoyed at one another for getting the other in trouble, we'd just laughed it off and became the best of friends.
Since then we'd had each other's backs and we were like the three musketeers.
Bethy and I had had our disagreements with Kat about Ray.
