YOUR POV

We sat on the brick wall, just staring out at the beach laid out before us.

My legs were swinging, whilst Luke's long ass legs managed to reach the sand below us.

"I've built my walls so damn high, haven't I?" Luke asked.

His eyes flickered between the beach and me, but they finally stopped and landed on me.

"Yes Luke, you really have," I admitted. "But why did you feel the need to build them?"

He sighed, dropping his head and looking down at his lap.

"Being hurt is hard Y/N. And you just learn to deal with it by putting up walls to stop from having the same thing happen again," he explained.

I remembered when he broke up with his ex and the way he completely shut down.

The Luke I'd once known was gone and in his place was a cold, distant, lost boy.

In a way, it had helped him to grow up and change, but I wouldn't wish that hurt upon anyone.

I hated seeing him so broken and I'd watched as the boys had been his support system, holding him up and stopping him from completely falling.

And because of her, he'd had to guard himself and his heart, which meant he became a bit of a recluse.

He shut himself off from everything and everyone and hardly went out anymore.

But I'd finally encouraged him to get out more and he'd come out of his hidden self and his walls had started to fall.

He still shielded himself from certain people but he was getting better.

"I'm sorry Luke," I said, because I really was.

I was sorry he'd been hurt, I was sorry I'd been such a shitty friend and hadn't helped him, I was sorry he'd felt the need to build walls.

And I was sorry I couldn't knock them down.

"They're falling down Y/N," he announced.

He turned back to me with a soft smile pulling at his lips.

"They're falling because to you," he admitted. "I feel less alone when you're around and I feel... I don't know, happier I guess."

He shifted his body so he was facing me full on, one leg on either side of the brick wall we sat upon.

He reached for one of my hands and held it in two of his, rubbing his thumb across the back of my hand.

"I've hid inside myself, locked my heart away and I think I'm ready to let it go," he proclaimed.

"Really?" I whispered.

He nodded, a full smile pulling at his lips.

The sparkle that had been lost for so long was reappearing inside his blue eyes and his lips were pulled back into a full smile.

"I've promised myself that I wouldn't let my walls down, I wouldn't let my heart out of its cage until I found the one who would make me shine. And that's what I did. I went and looked, searching for a feeling," he said.

He chuckled and shook his head, scooting closer.

"I was a fool because I was looking in all the wrong places Y/N. Because you were right there, right under my nose and when I should have been pulling you in, I have been pushing you out," he noticed.

"And for that, I am so so sorry," he apologised.

He sighed, his brow furrowing and his smile disappearing.

"Luke," I whispered, reaching to touch his cheek with my free hand.

He lay his head in my palm and sighed with content.

"You are the one I've waited for Y/N. You are the one who I want to give my heart to, give my everything to. And I want to be that for you too," he proclaimed.

His hands dropped mine and he cupped my cheeks in his palms.

"I love you so much Y/N. And I promise baby, I promise to never let you go, to never let you down and to never, ever hurt you," he gushed, his eyes searching mine.

I smiled and nodding, feeling the tears ready to escape.

He leaned forward, a smile playing on his lips and pressed them against mine, in a soft, but beautiful kiss.

"I love you," he breathed against my lips.

"I love you too Luke," I whispered back.

He grinned and crushed his lips against mine again, harder and hungrier than before, his tongue cheekily prying my lips open.

"What took you so long?" I whispered, staring deep into his blue eyes.

"I was an idiot," he realised. "And I can't believe I waited so long."

"Me either," I giggled, leaning back.

"Well, just know that this is it now Y/N. I'm not letting you go," he promised.

"I should hope so," I laughed.

He chuckled, jumping down from his spot on the wall.

His hands reached out for mine, and I placed them into his, letting him help me down.

My feet planted firmly on the sand, his arm snaked around my waist and he led me down to the sea.

The sun was setting in the distance and the beach itself was very quiet, with few people left and it was peaceful.

And right here in this moment, everything was perfect!
