"I know you want mummy buddy. And so do I, but she's sleeping and we need to be quiet so we don't wake her," Luke whispered.

I'd woken up to find his side of the bed empty.  It took me a minute to realise I hadn't been woken by Mason all night.  Why had he not cried?  Was something wrong?  Was he okay?  I'd raced down the hallway, making a beeline for my baby and found my boyfriend with Mason.  I stopped at the door when I heard the voices as I raced down the hallway.

"Mummy's very tired Mase, because you're always keeping her up," he chuckled.

I peeked around the door to see Luke sat on the rocking chair by the window, his back to me.  Mason was lay in his arms and the chair rocked back and forth.  The sunlight beamed in, casting a glow over their heads.  Luke wore no shirt and just a pair of jogging bottoms and his hair was messy.

"Your mum is the most wonderful woman Mason," Luke gushed to our little son.  "You're going to love her. She's the most amazing person and so very beautiful. You're very lucky to be able to call her your mummy."

Mason gurgled, kicking his little chubby feet and Luke laughed.  He stroked Mason's hairless little head, booping his nose.  I watched in awe as my boys bonded and felt my heart ready to burst.

"I'm lucky to have her too buddy. She's made me so happy and she gave me you. What would I do without you both hey?"

He sighed.

"My life would suck without you both in it," he said aloud.

His shoulders suddenly slumped and I could tell, even just from looking at the back of him, he was frowning.  I wanted to run in and hug him but I didn't want him knowing I'd been eavesdropping.

"And one day Mason, one day I will make your mummy my wife," he said.

I gasped, then quickly covered my mouth with my hand, hoping he didn't hear.  I stepped back, pressing my back against the wall and held my breath.  The floorboards creaked and feet pattered against the wooden floor.  Busted!  I moved to let him know I was there when his voice made me freeze.

"I love your mum so much Mason. So so much," he said softly.  "She's my girlfriend right now, but something always bugs me about that."

He paused and I took the chance to peek back inside.  He was over by the cot, Mason lay on the mattress, his pudgy arms waving above his head.  Luke reached down and pressed a kiss to his forehead.

"I get scared sometimes. She could still easily leave me. When I make her my wife, she will be mine and I won't be scared anymore."

Hearing him admit his deepest fears broke my heart.  I loved him, with everything I could give to him and I never dreamed of leaving.  I dreamed of marrying him and having more beautiful babies.

"I'm going to marry her Mason," he said with such conviction.  "Your mummy is going to become my wife and we're going to have lots more babies. You will have some brothers and sisters."

He smiled down at Mason and Mason gurgled again, kicking his feet in delight.

"Is that your way of agreeing with me?" Luke chuckled.

I stepped back, making it a little less obvious I was listening in.  I took a deep breath and swiped at the fallen tears.  I really did love this man!

"Hey, here you are," I said as I entered the room.

Luke looked up, a smile on his face and he nodded.

"Here I am," he replied, holding his arms out for me.

I walked to him, letting him hold me and nuzzled my head against his chest.

"Did he wake during the night?" I asked.

"He did," he replied. "But I took care of him."

"You did?" I asked, feigning disbelief.

"I did," he grinned proudly.

I leaned up on my tiptoes and kissed him.

"What was that for?" he asked.

"Because I love you," I told him.

He looked at me with warmth in his eyes and smiled.

"I love you," he said with truth.

And he did.  I knew he did.  And I couldn't wait to marry him!
