HARRYS POV
Standing outside on the patio alone, I kept checking my phone to see if she'd text.
It had gotten to 9pm and it was getting darker, but she hadn't arrived.
She hadn't text to say she was on her way.
She hadn't text to say if he was coming too.
She hadn't text to say she was cancelling our plans.
She just hadn't text.
"A watched pot never boils," Liam chuckled, as he stepped outside.
He closed the sliding door that led to his kitchen and came to stand beside me.
His eyes followed mine, staring straight up into the starlit night sky.
The sky was dotted with tiny specks of stars, shining bright and lighting up the world.
"She will come tonight Harry," he reassured me.
"When though?" I sighed.
I shoved my hands deep into my jeans pockets, only the tips of my fingers fitting into the tight material.
"Soon," he replied.
He took a deep breath, and blew out, a cloud of white air escaping his lips.
"She loves him Harry," he said quietly.
I already knew that, God did I know.
But it was hard to see them together, to even think of them together.
I wanted so bad for him to be a prick so she'd leave him.
But he wasn't.
He didn't have a bad bone in his body.
Aside from his raging jealous streak, and his rare red rage, he was a great guy.
"I just wish she didn't," I whispered.
He nodded, suddenly silent.
His hand squeezed my shoulder, trying to offer up any reassurance he could.
"Me too man. Me too," he said.
I looked at him and he smiled sadly.
"I wish she didn't too. I wish she loved you. Because seeing you so broken by someone you never even had, well it kills me. You're one of my best friends and all I want is for you to be happy," he admitted.
Hearing him say those words, just made my heart break even more.
I'd never had her.
I'd never got the chance to see what it was like to be with her.
Never got the chance to kiss her, or love her, or hold her.
I'd only been given the chance to miss her.
--
Liam left me alone to my thoughts not too long after he'd joined me.
He'd come back a couple minutes later to give me a blanket, telling me he didn't want me to freeze.
I turned my attention back to the sky above me, scattered with the stars that were now being hidden by the faint clouds.
The drink in my hand was being cradled and was still cold against my palm, the condensation dripping from my fingertips.
I chugged on the bottle, drinking half of the bottle in one go and feeling the warmth seeping through my body to the pit of my stomach.
Every so often, the sliding doors would open and a group of drunken people would fall out of the door, stumbling as they made their way onto the grass.
And each time my head would snap up, in hopes that she was finally here.
"Why am I so alone?" I said out loud to no one in particular.
Liam had Sophia, Louis had Amy, a new girl, and Niall was still with Chloe.
And then there was me, on my own, the third wheel to every group gathering.
My soul mate was taken, my love wasn't available and never would be.
I'd missed my opportunity and I would never have another.
I believed there was one perfect person for everyone.
And she was mine.
She was my better half.
As I lifted the bottle to my lips once more, the sliding doors opened slowly.
I hesitated before turning, but was met with a frowning Niall.
A small movement behind him caught my eye and I leant over a little, looking behind him.
I spotted Calum, with his back to me talking to someone.
He was looking down, and I immediately knew who was in front of him.
When he sidestepped, she came into view, and she was smiling up at him, her eyes crinkled but shining with the love she held for him.
I swung back my arm, and flung the bottle across the garden, sending it spinning and then crashing into the rose bush at the end of the garden.
"Fuck!" I screamed.
Niall's eyes widened and he quickly shut the door, cutting of my string of curses, but that didn't stop the eyes from staring.
I paced back and forth across the patio, my feet stamping and my hands tugging at the long curls on my head.
"Harry, mate, you need to calm down," Niall said worriedly.
I glowered at him but didn't stop pacing.
"She's here. With him. Fuck!" I growled.
Niall chuckled nervously, running a hand through his hair and nodded.
"Yeah, she is. She's happy Harry," he told me.
"Well I'm fucking not! I'm miserable," I spat.
He moved to the patio chairs and sank down into one of them, leaning back and getting comfortable.
"No shit," he mocked.
He crossed his legs at the ankles and watched me in amusement.
"I'm pretty sure you don't want her seeing you like this. So maybe take a few deep breaths or some shit. Just calm down. She'll come and see you. She promised," he reminded me.
He was right.
I was being petty, childish and damn stupid.
She'd promised.
She wouldn't break that.
I came to a slow stop, taking as many deep breaths as I could and trying to calm myself down.
I didn't want her to see me so messed up, so crazy.
I just wanted her.
Only her.
