ASHTON
The stores were closing in 3 hours and I still hadn't found a suit for tomorrow. The one that Louis had picked out was in the back of my closet and I didn't feel like wearing that one. I wanted something different. Which was why I was here.
I walked into the first of many clothes stores and searched the racks for a new tuxedo. After searching for no more than 10 minutes I was already ready to leave! It was a lot more crowded than I expected it to be. People were pushing into me, squeezing past me and shouting over me to their friends in the far and I was getting more annoyed as the minutes ticked by.
"Oops, sorry," a female voice said.
I glanced behind me to see Y/N. She was searching the racks of dresses just a few rows behind me. Was she also here looking for an outfit for tomorrow? It wasn't like her to be doing something so important so last minute. I grinned. I tiptoed towards her and leaned in close to her ear.
"It's not like you to leave something last minute," I whispered in her ear.
She jumped, her hands clutching at her chest and she giggled.
"Ashton," she gasped. She span around to face me and slapped at my chest. "You scared me! Don't do that again."
I chuckled.
"So, searching for a dress the night before a wedding?" I began. "So unlike you."
She took a deep breath and crossed her arms over her chest.
"Yeah well try searching for a dress with Georgia. She's such a difficult person and can't agree on anything," she huffed.
She blew back the hair falling into her eyes but it didn't budge. She groaned and angrily pushed away the hair. It fell back to cover her eyes and I laughed at her impatience. I reached for her, gently brushing the hair out of her eyes and softly tucking it behind her ears.
She watched me, her eyes big and her lips parted. I gulped, feeling the heat radiating from our touch. The electricity in the air was high and unbearable and the air was escaping from my lungs. I was breathless as I stared deep into her sparkling eyes.
"What colour are you looking for?" I whispered.
She blinked and her head dropped, the hair covering her face again.
"Hanna wants a floor length powder blue dress," she told me.
I stepped around her and searched, still feeling the heat from her presence. I hadn't seen her again since that day and I hadn't even spoken to her. I hadn't called or text and neither had she. She must have a date by now.
"What colour tie is your date wearing?" I asked casually.
"I don't have a date," she said.
I froze. She was still going alone? Why didn't she have a date yet?
"Oh," was all I said.
Dammit, why was it so difficult for me to speak to her?! She was just a normal girl. She was my friend. She was Y/N. I felt my heart beating at an unsteady pace. I was lying to her, but that didn't mean I had to lie to myself as well.
"Here," I said, handing her a dress. "This one is perfect."
She took the dress and I backed away. I span around and darted away from her. I was lying to myself. I shouldn't be doing that. She wasn't just my friend. She was special. She was the love of my life. She was the reason I got up in the morning, the reason I smiled. I just wished she knew that.
