PART 1
My alarm buzzed beside me and I reached across, switching it off.
I hoped that my little sister, in the bed beside me, hadn't heard the alarm.
Seeing her in the bed each morning was still taking some getting used to.
She finished school forever, just last week, and I was still getting used to it.
My little baby sister was starting college in the fall.
I still couldn't believe it.
She didn't stir when my alarm rang, and I let out a sigh of relief.
I sat up, a huge grin spreading across my face.
It was my birthday!
I couldn't wait for the day to begin.
I swung my legs out of my bed, my grin only getting bigger as I thought of the day ahead.
I grabbed my phone, unplugging the charger and stood out of the bed.
I tiptoed quietly out of the room and bumped into my brother.
"Happy birthday," he said, in a singsong voice.
"Thanks," I giggled, ruffling his hair.
He groaned and ran his hands through it, combing it into place.
I tended to forget how old he was now too, just like with my sister.
He'd hit that dreaded teen phase just last year.
He'd become obsessed with his appearance and hated even one hair out of place.
I moved to the stairs, quietly making my way down and trying to avoid waking my other sister.
She was now back home from university for the summer, and I was looking forward to spending some time together.
In all honesty, I had missed her a lot.
But I would never admit that to her.
My phone lit up over and over again as family and friends wished me happy birthday.
I ignored each one, too eager to get downstairs.
As I entered the living room, I wasn't surprised to find it empty.
The only people who would be up this early were my brother and my mum.
But of course mum had hit the snooze button.
Why I was up at 7am during my summer holidays no one could understand.
I had the chance of having a lie in but I chose against it.
I always said, I didn't like waking up at normal time on my birthday.
Because waking up at 12 just meant my birthday was already half over.
I liked to have to whole day to celebrate.
Not long after I had come down, my brother followed.
And then my mum.
As she entered the living room, gift bags in hands, she pulled out one present and handed it to my brother.
He winked at me as he received it, then handed it to me.
"Happy birthday Y/N. I bought you this," he grinned.
"Aw thanks," I mocked.
He stuck out his tongue at me as I began unwrapping the gift.
