YOUR POV
The microphone feedback screeches as the person on stage taps at it.
I cringe at the sound, my grip around the glass in my hand tightening.
And then they speak.
The voice I didn't expect.
And my body freezes.
"Hi, er... My names Michael," he mumbled.
My back straightened and I slowly turned to face him.
I saw him, sat on a stool on the stage.
His eyes were already on me as I turned, as if that's what he expected me to do.
"I don't even know why I'm doing this or what I'm doing here," he laughed nervously.
As he spoke, his eyes never left mine.
It was like he was speaking to me, and only me.
As if the bar was completely empty and it was just us two.
"I'm going to play a song that was written a while ago for my band. At the time, the song didn't really mean anything to me. It's a song about a guy, whose broken hearted and misses his girl. He begins to regret the choices he made. At the time, neither myself or any of my bandmates had ever felt anything similar to this song. But now? Now I'm feeling the effects."
Without him even saying it, I knew which song he was talking about.
He paused and gripped the microphone tightly in his hands.
His eyes briefly left mine and shifted to the floor as he took some deep breaths.
"She's here tonight but I won't embarrass her or myself and point her out. She knows who she is and I beg her to come find me when I'm finished. This song now holds some true meaning to me. This song is for her. This song is called Amnesia."
He began to strum his guitar and the tune became obvious.
Of course, without the boys the melody wasn't spot on, but it was still so good.
And I felt the tugging on my heart strings as he began to sing.
"I drove by all the places we used to hang out getting wasted
I thought about our last kiss, how it felt, the way you tasted."I felt his pain in every word he sang, and I sympathised with him because I felt it too.
Heartache.
