ASHTON

A blue pickup truck was parked outside my driveway when I finally drove back home.  I climbed out of my car and waited.  The drivers door of the blue pickup slowly opened and he climbed out.  He walked towards me with a determined stride, his arms swinging by his sides and his jaw tense.

"Why did you leave?" he snapped.

I turned and walked inside, knowing he'd follow.  His heavy feet stomped after me and slammed the door behind him.

"Ashton, don't ignore me!" he seethed.

I span around full of fury and feeling betrayed.  He was the one who had lied to me.  He had no right to be angry right now.

"Hold on, why the hell are you angry?" I snapped.  "You lied to me."

"Well it was the only way I'd get you to ask her to be your date," he grumbled.

He turned away and paced into the living room.

"Don't walk away from me Liam!" I snarled.  "You have a hell of a lot of explaining to do."

"I was trying to help you Ashton, trying to give you the push you needed," he admitted.

"I didn't need a push and I certainly didn't ask for it!" I shouted.

I pointed an angry finger at him and glared at him.

"Stay out of my business next time alright," I seethed.

He scoffed and rolled his eyes.

"You need help Ashton," he spat.  "You've been pining after this girl for what.... 3 years and you haven't made a single move. I'm trying to be a friend."

"I don't need help Liam, why don't you get that!" I yelled, throwing my hands up in frustration.  "I can do this.... on my own."

"Well then you're on your own now," he laughed without humour.

He stormed past me, bumping his shoulder against mine forcefully and slammed the door behind him.  I stayed still in one spot listening as his car screeched away.  I kept wondering if she had known the truth when she saw me standing there.  I wondered if she knew it was me who had knocked at her door.
