School was very stressful for you, so you always liked to do something fun afterwards. Especially on a Friday.
That night, Adam came knocking on your door. You had just gotten into your tiny apartment that you rented so you wondered who would be coming here now. You opened the door in a gray tanktop and black sweatpants. You smiled when you saw Adam standing there with his black hood over his head.
"What's up, Adam?" You greeted.
"Not much," He started. "Hey, do you want to go to this cool abandoned building I found?"
The conversation just went on from that. He told you that you'd have to change because it was private property and you two always had a bad case of getting chased. That's probably why he also mentioned shoes that are easy to run in.
You never understood how Adam go away from the police. Yeah, sure, you've ran from them a couple times but you knew damn well he did it more often. He's even told you, "yeah, I'm sort of used to this already." He was honestly a cool guy, but your parents would say otherwise. For obvious reasons. That's why posters are on almost every wall in Mandela County, showing him and his "buddy" with bold words underneath them. Wanted .
Once you were ready you both started to walk to the place. There was a cold gust of wind that sent a shiver down your spine. You were never a fan of the cold, so your least favorite months were October, November and so on. You buried yourself deeper into your BPS hoodie and let out a breath of hot air that quickly turned into a cool, fog-like cloud.
"Cold?" Adam bluntly asked. You nodded and then shuttered as another gust of wind hit you. "Then let's hurry." Adam started to run. You soon started up, and ran alongside him. "You actually care?" You teased. Adam scoffed and rolled his eyes. After Sarah told you what he said about Jonah, you've always been on edge. You never really felt like he cared, he only cared about this damn job. That's what you always tell yourself, but something makes you feel otherwise. That's probably what Jonah felt.
Adam wrapped an arm around your shoulder to somewhat stop you from lagging behind. You guessed that it worked because you stayed up with him. Adam glanced at you, and gave you what you could call a smirk. You gave him a soft smile. You and Adam were always friends, but he was like the flirty friend of the group, he even went as far as flirting with Jonah. All jokes and fun, obviously. You couldn't see Adam as any more than a friend besides a brother. He was protective of you, and that's what you loved.
"We're here!" Adam chimed. You jumped, not expecting to get yanked out of your thoughts. Your gaze shifted from Adam to the old, seemingly burnt house before you. Adam dragged you by your wrist, "let's go, n/n!" You quickly matched his quickened steps. Adam pushed open the surprisingly unlocked door, which released an eerie creak. Adam stepped in first and pulled you along. It was dark, so Adam took out his phone and turned on his phone flashlight. My eyes widened from how dark it was, making an attempt to see until I heard the click of the light.
Adam glanced at me, "You scared of the dark?" He teased. I scoffed and crossed my arms. "Nah, you're a big little girl now aren't ya?" Adam snickered. "Adam!" I whisper-yelled. He patted my back and aimed the light around the building. There was a large, dusty staircase in the middle of the room. To the left and right there were two doorways. They were all coated in darkness, and it was sort of unnerving. Adam started to walk off to the right, "N/n, kid, check the left!" I turned my head towards him and shook my head in denial. Adam turned to me when he heard my footsteps stop.
"What, too chicken?" Adam raised a brow. Your face didn't change, it still showed fear. Adam rolled his eyes and then beckoned you to move towards him. You moved without hesitation, just as footsteps were heard in the spot you were standing. There was a figure standing there, a long face, but not a sad one. One that had a forever lasting smile. Adam's face lightened up, while your terror only grew. "First sighting!" Adam yelled and then took a picture on his phone. Now it was your turn to drag him by the wrist, and you dragged him straight to the door.
Adam complained of-course, and he tried to snap a few more images. Fast footsteps were heard, but it wasn't yours or Adams. "Mandela County police! Hands in the air!" A bright light was shone on both you and Adam. Adam booked it. He ran faster than he ever has before. "Murray! Stand down!!" Another officer yelled. You tried to speed up, but you couldn't, you almost gave up- before Adam did the same thing he did before. He wrapped his arm around your shoulder and dragged you along.
~~~
You rushed Adam into your house and slammed the door shut. You didn't turn the lights on, nor did you let your door down. "That was so awesome!" Adam exclaimed. You slowly turned your head at him. "We could've gone to prison! Or worse, die to that alternate," You yelled. Adam turned shocked, silent. He rubbed the back of his neck. "Hey, I'm sorry I-" , "NO, Adam! You don't understand. You could've died if I didn't drag you away." Adam slowly approached you and hugged you. You weren't even sad, you were just mad at him. You softly shoved him away. "I'm sorry," He muttered into your neck as he still held onto you. You grunted. "I know you're angry," Adam whispered. "You're warm, very warm." You sighed.  Adam always somehow comforted you. Adam nuzzled his head into your hair and chuckled. He held you closer and put your head on his chest. You could feel and hear his calm heartbeat, and it soothed you. "You're so fragile."
