~KYLE'S 18TH BIRTHDAY~
~GRACE~

"Kyle will be home any minute now" mum said as we were putting up the last decorations for his birthday party

It was his 18th birthday and I can't believe he is growing up so fast. I remember when 2-years-old me got tiny human on her lap and that was my brother. The same brother who is now turning eighteen and becoming an adult.

I remember the day he started walking and that happened totally accidentally. He was a year old and I was playing on the living room floor. I heard light steps but didn't pay much attention until, out of nowhere, I felt light touch on my shoulder. When I turned around I faced my little brother smiling at me and standing by his own. I was scared and I screamed calling for mum as Kyle fell down on his butt and started crying because I was too loud.

When I told mum that he walked towards me by his own she decided to test it. She sat a little bit away from me and called Kyle to walk towards her what he didn't do. I went towards mum and called him and he so did it, he walked towards me throwing himself to me as I smiled at him giving my best not to hurt him.

And the day when he said his first word and that was me. Sista, that was his first word. Just a reminder of that makes me so emotional and the happiest person alive.

"spiiiiin ittttt" Leo said loudly wrapping his arms around my waist from behind and spinning me around as I laughed

"what's going on?" I asked smiling at him after he put me back down and turn me towards him

"nothing" he smiled kissing me and just when he wanted to say something more we heard front door opening signalling Kyle is back home

Just when he entered the living room we all shouted happy birthday as he smiled looking at us.

It wasn't anything big for today because it's a middle of week so it was just a family evening. And this time it really was just a family, mum, dad, James, Kennedy, Millie, Leo, him and I.

"happy birthday big boi" I said hugging him "I'm so proud of you, you know that, right?" I asked holding his cheeks

"I know, thank you for everything" he said hugging me once again as I fought myself not to let tears go now

He is a part of me, a big part of me, having him by my side and being able to be by his side is my biggest blessing. If I didn't get him, if I was the only child or had a sister, I don't think I would ever be who I am, I don't think I would ever feel the same to someone who is not him.

After dinner in the backyard we all got our presents and started giving it to Kyle.  First were mum and dad on whose present Kyle almost faint, he was staring at them totally shocked.

"no way" he barely said, eyes wide open

"it's yours" dad said putting car keys in Kyle's hands

Dad was in doubt about this for a quiet long time because he is overprotective and scared for both of us but at the end he bought Kyle a car. Mum at first also didn't think it was a good idea but at the end she didn't mind. 

After mum and dad, Millie got closer to Kyle handing him a box.

"this is from us, we weren't sure what would you like the most so we went with safe" she said smiling at him

Leo grib on my thigh tightly and I put my hand on the top of his taking a look at him as he just closed his eyes for a second and look at me.

"noo, you're joking" Kyle mumbled looking at James then to Kennedy and Leo and back at Millie

"are you serious?" he said taking two tickets from the box and waving it to me as I just smiled at me

"how you got them so early?" he asked looking at James

"my little secret" James said smiling at him "you can take whoever you want with you" he added and Kyle looked towards me as I just smiled

"one is yours" he said handing me one of tickets

"I have something else but it's not for public eye, so open it on your own" Leo said throwing a small wrapped box on Kyle who just laughed

"you did not" Kyle laughed what caused Leo to laugh too

"better be safe than sorry" Leo said and then I realised what he did, he got Kyle a box of condoms, what an idiot, I rolled my eyes not believing

Mum and Kennedy went to bring cake as James and dad went to bring some wine or something.

"but I have you on eye who you're using it with" Leo said to Kyle hinting to his left where Millie was and I punch him in shoulder

"don't be a freak, Leo" I said and he looked at me

"I'm not being a freak, I'm just telling them the truth! Safety on first place and they are still too young for kids!" he said and I saw Millie putting hands on her face as Kyle laughed uncomfortable

"you're making them uncomfortable" I said quietly to Leo who just looked towards his sister and Kyle

"I'm sorry kiddos" he said and Millie stood up walked towards mum and Kennedy who were bringing cake

"we're not together" Kyle said quietly to Leo

"fuck ... I'm sorry" Leo said

"I didn't give you my present" I said breaking this uncomfortable moment

"mum, wait with cake for a bit longer" Kyle shout and I just smiled because mum was already few steps from us

She put cake down as I took my present and give to Kyle sitting beside him. It was a photo album with our pictures from when were little until the pic from my birthday 4 months ago.

He turned first page where I left him a message.

Dear brother,
Thanks for being my brother. If I had a different brother, I would punch his face and go find you.

He smiled as he read it and leaned closer to me to hug me.
