One of the perks of being a prefect meant I was able to go basically wherever I wanted, whenever I wanted.
I left the Undercroft quickly, not bothering to clean up my mess of the discarded vials and ran straight to the dungeons to where I assumed the entrance was to the Slytherin common room. I had been near it when we went to the scriptorium, but I could never remember what wall it appeared from.
I began dragging my hand along the cold stone of every wall in the vicinity until a large snake appeared from the floor next to my feet and weaved it's way up the wall, startling me so hard I almost fell flat on my backside.
Ominis appeared from the doorway.
"Ominis?" I said, trying to stifle the sniffles from my crying.
I startled him. I was probably one of the last people he expected to see here at this time of night.
"Lara? What on Earth are you doing here?" Ominis said, a hand firmly clutched over his quickly rising and falling chest to heal himself of the jump scare I'd just given him.
"Is Sebastian in there? I need to see him desperately."
"He is, I'll go and fetch him for you." Ominis said, no questions asked.
Ominis returned to the common room and emerged a few minutes later with a confused looking Sebastian behind him.
Sebastian caught my eye and his face immediately changed to concern.
"You watched them." He said, looking at my freshly-cried looking eyes.
I nodded.
"Watched what?" Ominis said.
"I'll explain later. Go on and get your snacks from the kitchen." Sebastian told Ominis, his eyes not moving from mine. He grabbed me by the robe and walked me back to where I'd just come from and entered the Undercroft.
He looked at the empty glass vials strewn on the floor.
"I thought you might react that way." He laughed slightly.
I didn't find it quite as amusing.
"Why didn't you tell me?" I accused, my voice probably a little too loud for the situation.
"Which part?"
"Anne!"
"You never asked. You also wouldn't let me talk to you and I didn't want to burden you."
"What burden? I did so much for her, Sebastian. I did it all because I cared for you. I think the least anyone could do is tell me she'd passed."
"I'm sorry... it's really hard for me to talk about it. It's why I used the memories instead of speaking to you about it. I should have told you."
I noticed tears well in his eyes and realised I probably reacted harshly. After all, it wasn't me who'd lost a sister in addition to everyone else in my life.
We stood in silence for a moment until I saw him lift his head and look at me again. He'd wiped the tears away from his eyes.
"Did you have any questions about any of the others?"
"Oh, I have many." I stifled a small laugh, trying to diffuse the tension in the air.
"Well, I'm all ears." Sebastian said, casually leaning back against a pillar and folding his arms across his chest.
"Who's Amelia?"
"She was my girlfriend."
"Was? What happened?"
