Sebastian's POV
Two weeks. Two weeks together is all it took for me to fall head over heels, madly and deeply in love with Lara Radley. She radiated such light, such warmth and I forever wanted to be in her orbit.
"Lara!" I heard Poppy Sweeting call from around a corner as we re-entered Hogwarts for the first time this year.
Lara and her best friend embraced tightly and I wasn't entirely shocked to see Ominis trailing closely behind Poppy. I did think leaving them behind unsupervised was going to be a bad idea.
"How was London?" Poppy asked, released Lara from her grip.
"Positively amazing!" Lara beamed. "What about your break?"
"It was great! Sounds like we have loads to talk about."
As I tried to listen to the girls conversation, Ominis finally reached me and placed a hand on my shoulder.
"Welcome back, Sallow. Looks like it went well?"
"Ominis, you have no idea." I said, unable to wipe the massive grin off my face. Thank god he was blind because I probably looked like a bloody idiot.
"Seems like we have a lot to catch up on." Ominis grinned. That devil had been up to something too, I just knew it.
Unfortunately, Lara and I had to part for the first time in a month. It was hard to let her walk away. Our two weeks in London had me dreaming of my future outside of Hogwarts for the first time ever. I truly hadn't given a shit what was going to become of me. I had nothing worth living for... but seeing the product Lara was of a loving and supportive home, it made me rethink my life choices. That's if Lara even wanted me in her life after school.
I walked back to the dungeons with Ominis, preparing for our first day of classes ahead. The Slytherin common room was so dark and gloomy. I normally wouldn't have minded but I had just come from the comfort and warmth of a well-loved family home and this just felt so drab in comparison. I used to love this place but now... not so much. For the first time in my life, I think I'd have preferred to be sorted into Gryffindor just for the cosy common room.
I parked my trunk at the end of my bed, sorting out my clothes and placing my new book from Lara in my bedside drawer.
"So, how was it?" Ominis called from his bed.
"It was bloody incredible, Omi. You have no idea."
"Elaborate?"
"Well, where do I start? It was just amazing getting to see what her home life is like. You'd be so jealous, mate. They actually love and care for each other!"
"Hm. I wonder what that's like."
Ominis and I both laughed through our childhood traumas.
"But, they are so kind and welcoming. They made me feel like I was part of the family. They got me Christmas gifts. They fed me every night. I felt... wanted."
"Well, after everything that's happened, you've repented and healed and I think that's what you deserve, Sebastian."
First day of a new year and I was already fighting back tears in my eyes.
"Well, we better not be late. You have potions and I'm sure you don't want to disappoint Sharp on your first day." Ominis declared.
I agreed. While Sharp did have a soft spot for me, I knew he still wasn't afraid to give me a detention if I was falling out of line and I'd hate to miss dinner with Lara because of it. So, we headed off, breaking away to our respective classrooms. Ominis, on the other hand, ditched potions as soon as he could.
