Baby Lottie was almost a month old. She had slotted into our lives so easily and was the definition of the perfect baby. Sebastian and I had been so incredibly happy and in love in our new baby bubble we almost forgot that Sebastian had to return to work.

It was a Wednesday morning, and the sun filtered through the curtains, casting a golden glow in the room. Sebastian and I lay in bed, cherishing those precious moments together as a family. Lottie was peacefully feeding, her tiny fingers wrapped around Sebastian's gentle touch.

"Do I really have to go?" Sebastian groaned, reluctantly tearing himself away from our little cocoon of love.

I sighed, understanding his reluctance. "I wish you didn't, but we do need the money," I reminded him.

He chuckled, a bittersweet sound. "I know," he replied, his voice filled with longing.

I watched from the bed as Sebastian tiptoed around our room, locating his clothes for work. We'd been so content around the house, he'd been wearing his pyjamas or forgoing a shirt completely. Dressing up again felt strange but I adored the way the unbuttoned collar showed off the nape of his neck and the start of his collarbones, the light dusting of his chest hair peeping out the top.

But I stopped myself from watching, remembering I'd had a baby only three weeks ago and I was absolutely not keen on doing that again any time soon, no matter how hot the man I was married to happened to be.

He slipped on his navy shirt and brown pants, taking care to not let his belt clink together as he thread it through the pants.

"Unfortunately, I have to leave now or I'll be late," He said, kneeling beside me on the bed and kissing me deeply. "I love you so much."

He then moved to Lottie's side, placing a delicate kiss on her tiny head, his hand softly caressing her hair one last time. With a final glance, he silently slipped downstairs, leaving us behind.

I found myself just drifting off to sleep when I heard the familiar sound of Petey bringing in today's mail. He made his way upstairs and dropped a single letter on my chest. It was from Ominis.

Dear Lara and Sebastian,

Congratulations on the birth of Charlotte Anne, I am certain she is beautiful if what Poppy tells me about both of your appearances is true. We cannot wait to meet her.

We'd also like to inform you both that Poppy has delivered a healthy baby boy, Silas Sweeting. She tells me he has a head of blonde hair and porcelain skin.

We hope you're both doing well and can't wait to have our children meet soon.

Ominis and Poppy xx

I beamed with joy at the news, knowing I couldn't wait to tell Sebastian tonight when he got home. I had spoken about taking my first trip outside of the home and the letter had me feeling the courage to do it. Sebastian and I had only merely taken a walk around the block together a few times with Lottie, let alone taken her to a crowded pub. But I knew Sebastian would be missing her dearly and I was quite nervous to spend all day alone cooped up in the house with her.

So while Charlotte slept, I gave myself a wash and found a delicate, light blue dress. Similar to the one I had worn at Christmas time all those years ago before Sebastian busted the buttons off it in the throes of passion. Come to think of it, he promised me he'd get that fixed...

Examining myself in the mirror, I couldn't help but notice how different the dress fit me now, my post-pregnancy body not quite the same as before. But I shrugged off any self-consciousness, reminding myself that today, all eyes would be on our beautiful newborn daughter.
