Sasha's POV.

A few days have passed and my family and I are helping out with cleaning this cabin house thing. It's soooo boring.

I was to play some more with Miss Tasha and Mister Clayton. Mama says they have work to do though. I have gotten to meet Mister Connor now. He's a little shy so I have to be extra nice around him.

Right now I'm picking up pine cones from around the house and putting them into a small piles. It's started to get cold outside. I hope it snows soon. I want to have a snowball fight with all my new friends. That would be so much fun.

It's then that I notice Mister Connor is outside and helping me by grabbing sticks instead of pine cones. He looked a little upset. " Are you ok Mister Connor?" I ask.

He looks over and offers a small smile. " Yeah kid, I'm fine. " he says.

" Really? You look sad though. " I say.

" I'm a little upset, but it's ok. " he says.

" No it's not. Mama says when you're sad you have to do something to cheer yourself up. What do you want to do Mister Connor?" I ask.

He went silent. I figured he was thinking, so I went back to work. " I'm not sure what I want to do kid. " he says.

" My name is Sasha, not kid. " I say.

He chuckled. " Very well Sasha. " he said.

I grin and walk over to him before wrapping my arms around him I'm a hug. He looked startled. " Uh... kid, what are you doing?" He asked.

" It's Sasha. I'm giving you a hug silly. Hugs always make people feel better. " I say.

I then back up and look at him. " I... " he stopped seconds later because we heard a weird noise.

Both of us looked and Mister Connor let out a warning growl. That made me a little scared. He put himself in front of me and sniffed the air. I hid behind him and waited.

Seconds later we heard the noise again. This time I recognized it and a gasp left me. " Kitty!!" I cry before rushing out from behind Mister Connor towards the noise we were hearing.

" No, Sasha wait. Ugh seriously kid?!" He ran after me.

I head the noise again. It was the sound of a little kitten meowing. I had to find the little thing and take it to mama. She loves cats.

I heard it one last time and finally figured out where it was coming from. There in a big pile of leaves, shivering from the cold and a little wet was an orange tabby cat. It was so little. It was meowing and looked so cute.

I rushed up to it or tried to before Mister Connor pulled me back. " What are you doing kid? You can't just rush off like that. " he says.

" Why not? I was just trying to help this little kitten. " I say.

" It could be dangerous for all we know. I don't even know what that thing is! " says Mister Connor.

" It's just a baby cat. " I say.

A look of confusion comes across his face. " A cat?" He asks.

I gasp in shock. " You've never seen a cat before?" I ask. He shakes his head no.

I grab his hand and lead him gently over to the kitten. We gently crouch down and I reach out with both hands and gently pick up the kitten. It kept calling out. I then set him down carefully into Mister Connor's hands.

" Hold her against your chest to keep her warm. She's just a baby. " I say.

He follows my instructions. " Come on, let's go show mama. " I insist.

He just follows along as he stares down at the kitten in his arms. Once we make it back I see my parents outside looking around for me. " Mama. Daddy. Come look at what we found. " I call.

They look and smile. My mama walks up and sees what Mister Connor is holding. She lets out a small. " Awww."

She holds her hands out. " May I see her for a moment to make sure she's healthy?" She asks.

Mister Connor nods and gently passes the kitten over to my mama. " We found her in the trees. She was scared. All by herself. " I state.

Mama looks her over. " We she is a girl. Doesn't even have her eyes open yet. She can't be more than two days old. She is very small. She must have been the runt of the litter. " says my mama.

" Can we keep her? Please mama?! I'll take good care of her. Mister Connor will help me, won't you Mister Connor?" I ask.

" Sweetie, this is a big job. You can't just volunteer someone for this. This kitten will need a lot of extra attention. " she says.

Disappointment fills me. " But the kitten will die without our help. " I cry. I feel tears build in my eyes.

My mama goes to say something when Mister Connor interrupts. " Ill take care of her. Just tell me what I need to do and I'll do it. " he says.

Excitement and hope builds in my chest and I look from him to my mama. " Are you sure Connor? Taking care of a baby kitten is a big job. " says my mama.

" Well it's a cute little thing. Plus, I'm going to need something to keep me busy while I'm here by myself. Might as well make sure she gets a chance at life. " says Mister Connor.

" Then since you and Sasha found her, the two of you can take care of her together. That means naming her as well. " says my mama.

I gasp with joy. " What about walnut? " I ask.

My mama laughs. " Why walnut?" She asks

" Oh I get it. It's because we found her under a walnut tree." Says Mister Connor.

I nod enthusiastically. " Yes, yes!!" I cry.

My mama smiles. " Then it's settle. Her name will officially be Walnut. " and with that I cheer.
