Alpha Anthony's POV.
When I awoke in the morning I felt more rested than I have in months. I slowly sat up in bed and looked to see Natalie sitting in the side chair I had in my room reading one of the books I had kept on my shelf to the right of her.
She looked up from the book and saw I was awake. She smiled and waved. " Good morning Alpha Anthony. How did you sleep?" She asked.
That's when I noticed Rick was also awake mirroring his mate on the other side of the room. " I slept really great. I can't thank you two enough for doing what you did. " I said.
" A good nights sleep is thanks enough. Now, I'll go prepare us something to eat, I want you two to grab whatever work you need and meet me at the table. We will go over it all together. " said Natalie.
Part of me wants to refuse what she said because for one, she's not even part of my pack and two, she's ordering an Alpha like me around. I can't help but nod along though. The way she spoke reminded me of how my mother told me to do things. It brought a warm feeling to my chest and I couldn't help but to smile as she left the room.
" Once a mother always a mother. " said Rick.
I realized then that he caught me and a dark blush coated my cheeks causing him to laugh. " I felt the same way when another mother started to take care of me after my mother was killed with my home pack. It was weird for it to be someone I didn't know but it just felt right to do what she said. That's what you're feeling, correct?" He asked. I nodded in response.
" Natalie always latches on to the ones that need her the most and right now that's you. Let's not waste anymore time. I've already gotten ready for the day so the bathroom is free for you to use. " said Rick.
I merely nodded again and got up to go get ready. Once I was dressed and ready for the day I led Rick to my office where I pulled out a stack of paper that held the names of every single pack member I have in my pack, the reason they either moved to my pack or if they were born here, their ages, gender and their past qualifications for any high up position they could have had training in at their previous pack.
It had to be at least forty pages with names on the front and back. Rick smiled. " This should be fun. " he said.
I cracked a small smile and followed him out of my office, I then led him to where Natalie should be cooking and upon entering the room the smell of bacon hit my nose and made my mouth water.
She smiled at us as she was cooking and motioned us to the table. I sat down and Rick followed suit. Rick took the stack of papers from me before I could do anything. " Are the name listed alphabetically?" He asked.
I shake my head. " I've been so busy and haven't trust anyone to help me so they are all mismatched. " I said.
" That shouldn't be a problem then. As we go through these names you and I can go over the names and out the people we like on a separate pile, everything else we hand to Natalie and she can sort them alphabetically. Sound good?" Asked Rick.
I like the way these two think. " That sounds like a good plan. Let's do it. " I said.
From then on as Natalie finished breakfast we started to look at the names. We started to separate them into two piles. I slide one over to the not qualified pile when Rick took the one I was looking at. I looked confused before he motioned for me to look.
" Ok, first off, tell me what you don't like about this guy. As far as I can see he got leadership qualifications, helped his former Bète on his previous pack and has offered to help you before. Why dismiss him?" Asked Rick.
I scrunched up my nose in distaste. " He tried to order me around once when my dad gave him an assignment to do. " I said.
" How old were you when he did this?" Asked Rick.
I thought back. " I was about to turn 15. " I said.
" How old was he?" Asked Rick.
" 20 years old I believe. " I said.
" Then you both were young and had different view points. You can't let one simple thing stand in the way of the future of your pack. I'm not going to tell you what to do, but if I were you I'd put aside my past rivalry with him and at least allow him an interview. Who knows, maybe he will apologize for trying to order you around. " said Rick.
I think it over before sighing. " You're right. I am an Alpha. My pack comes first and even if I don't like the guy. I need to choose right by my pack. " I said as I took his paper and placed it in the section set aside for those we want to interview.
Rick looked proud and that same warm feeling lit in my chest. " Let's keep looking. " said Rick just as Natalie brought us our food and sat down as well.
She started to sort the papers as she ate and we did the same with ours. I then accidentally dropped a paper I was reading and it slide over to the door. I looked over to see my current Bète lean down and grab it.
He looked over the paper. I suddenly felt bad for not telling him what we were doing. He merely smiled in relief. He looked at me.
" Finally you're looking for my replacement. I'm so proud of you sir. " he said.
" Y-you're not angry I didn't tell you?" I asked.
" Why would I be? You are the Alpha. You don't have to tell me everything. I trust you sir. " he said.
I smiled at him. " Would you like to help us by looking over the ones we placed in the interview pile?" I asked.
His eyes lit us greatly. " I would love to help you sir. " he said before he walked over. Natalie asked him if he's eaten. After he answered she went and got him a plate as well and we sat down together to continue going over the papers.
Once we were done we ended up with twenty people for interviews. The rest were still being sorted by Natalie. I waited patiently for my Bète to finish looking over the last one.
" You've made some really good choices here sir. When do you want to start the interviewing process?" He asked.
" I'd like to send out a mind link to those we picked and start the interviews tomorrow morning. " I said.
" That sounds wonderful. I can have some staff members get the interview room ready. " said my Bète.
" Wonderful. " said Rick.
" Now that we've gone through people to interview for your next Bète, we need to go over all your guards and start the process with them. First though, you three need to come us with a course and questions to our each of them through. " said Natalie.
" What's wrong with the guards?" Asked my Bète.
" After finding out it was one of mom and dads most trusted guard members that betrayed them and let in the rogues that ended their lives, I have found it very difficult to put my trust in anyone in this pack. Especially the guards. " I said.
" So that's why you haven't been sleeping properly. Very well, we will do this your way and make sure you have a team that you can trust. " said my Bète.
I smiled at him. " Thank you. "
He nodded and Natalie started to work on the dishes. I can't believe they took time out of visiting their kid to stay with me and help me the way that they are. It's so unbelievably kind of them.
I hope to pay them back tenfold when I get the chance. With that last thought I turn my attention back to planning the course and questions for my guards.
