Alpha Grace's POV.

I let out a sigh as I sit back from my desk and stretch my arms over my head. It's only ten in the morning and already the added work I took from John's shoulders is a lot, but it's worth it so he won't have to worry so much.

It's not the first time I've taken the brunt of the entire work load. It's been worse than this so I can pull through. I will be setting aside some time tonight so I can treat John's parents to a nice dinner.

I plan on cooking the dinner myself. It always makes me feel happy to treat someone to something I've made myself. I already baked a cake last night after John went to bed.

Speaking of John, he's been sleeping in this morning, which is good because an anxiety attack can sure take a lot out of you. I've had them before. It's draining and not only mentally but physically exhausting.

I'm snapped out of my thoughts by a knock of my office door. I straighten myself up in my chair and call for them to enter.

The door opens and John's head pokes through. He offers a small smile but I can still see some exhaustion in his eyes. " Hello Alpha Grace. " he said.

" John, we've talked about this. Just call me Grace. " I said.

He nods his head and steps further into my office so the door closes behind him. " Any word on when your parents will be here?" I ask.

He nods. " Mom contacted me this morning. They'll be heading here after lunch. " he said.

" So they should arrive around dinner time then?" I ask.

He nods. " Why are they taking so long to leave?" I ask him.

" Turns out Alpha Anthony has been running on fumes since his parents were killed. He has really bad trust issues and is in need of a replacement Bète. So my parents are helping him get things situated before they make their way here. " said John.

My eyes widen. " I never realized he was suffering like that. I'll have to offer my help to him in a discreet way so he doesn't think I know his business. Your parents are very sweet for offering their help like that. " I tell him.

" They really are. My mother would ever leave a person who's in need of help if there's a way she can help. " said John.

" I'm sure you would have done the same if you were there too. " I said.

" True. I like to be of use and help people who need it. " said John.

" That's a very good quality to have. Not many people have the same mindset that you and your parents do. " I said.

" I could say the same about you. You do so much for your pack even though you don't have to. In fact, you made this pack with every intention of helping people because you wanted to. It's a noble action that I've always admired in you. " said John.

I feel warmth spread through my chest at his words. He's so kind. " Thank you John. Those words mean a lot to me. The work can get overwhelming at times and simple words and compliments like that always remind me what I'm doing this for. So thank you very much John. " I said.

It's true. Every time someone compliments what I've done for my pack and why I started it in the first place, it always fills me with new energy to make this pack even better and to help the people of my pack nonstop until they don't need me anymore and even some after that.

John smiled. " How's your hand doing this morning?" I ask.

He rolls his wrist around a little to test its mobility. He winced when it moves a certain way. " Still the same. Though my wrist is aching a bit more today then it usually does. " he said.

" Stop by the pack doctor today before your parents get here and tell her you need a muscle relaxant and maybe a pain reliever. She'll know what to get you. " I said.

" That does sound good. I think I'll do that when I leave here. " he said.

" Good. Remember, your health comes before anything else. Nothing is more important than you. " I said.

He nods and we talk for a bit more before he leaves my office to go to the pack doctor. I continue with my work for a few more hours before my clock says it's noon. Time for lunch.

I set my work aside and get up from my chair. I make my way out of my office and down the hall to my private kitchen where I get out all the ingredients I need to make myself a sandwich. I even make an extra and sit it out on a plate. John usually walks in around this time and wonders out loud what to make himself to eat so I've been making him a sandwich everyday.

Right on time, just as I take my first bite John walks in. I snap my fingers before he can say anything and he looks startled for a moment before I point to the extra sandwich. He laughs and thanks me for it before sitting down ti eat his as well.

After this I begging the preparations for dinner by setting up my crockpot with a nice juicy pork roast. I'll be baking some potatoes with cheese on them in the over as well as steaming some broccoli. I haven't cooked this meal yet for John so it will be new to him as well. I hope he and his parents will love it.

I know I do. It was one of my go to meals. My mother used to make it for me whenever I got good grades in school or achieved something in life. The last time she made it for me was just before I left my home pack to go join my mates pack.

It's been a long time since then and I haven't heard from her or my dad since. Perhaps I should at the very least contact my mother and explain all that's happened. I'm not yet ready to bring up those old horrible memories though. Maybe with John by my side it would be easier.

I shake my head. It'll do me no good to dwell on this now. I figure it out when the time comes. John looks at me confused for a moment before I simply shake my head and smile.

He nods in understanding that I don't want to talk about it and we both continue to eat and wait until the time his parents will arrive.
