John's POV.
My nerves are shot right now. I've been so busy with working and making sure that Alpha Grace could rest that I forgot my parents were coming to visit until they mind linked me this morning.
Now I'm stressing about getting their room ready and making sure the pack house is clean and looking good for them. I am so busy that it took me ten minutes before I noticed Alpha Grace watching me from the entrance to the room I was cleaning for them.
I don't let that stop me from cleaning. I just continue with what I'm doing not matter how much the movement makes my hand twinge in agony. She must see this because seconds later she's in front of me and I freeze.
" John..." she starts. I refuse to hear her. I try to get around her with the rag and cloth I am holding but she grabs my wrists to stop me.
" N-no. I've got to clean... I..." I started before she raises her voice.
" John, Enough. Look at me!" She orders.
I look up at her and we lock eyes. Her look softens and she smiles at me. " It's ok sweetie. What are you so nervous about?" She asks.
I stumble over my words trying to find an answer. She releases my hurt wrist which she thankfully wasn't holding too hard and brings that hand to gently caresses my chin.
" Relax John. We have staff here that will prepare the room for your parents. " said Alpha Grace.
" I know but..." I start.
" No John. You are making yourself stress out so much because you're doing it all by yourself. You're not letting anyone else help you. Why? " she asks.
I yet again stumble over my words. She tilts her head at me. " Did you not have staff at your home pack?" She asked.
" No, they did. I just..." I start again. I can feel my nerves on edge and it's like there's something in my chest clawing, trying to figure out how to get free. It's then that I realize my breathing had picked up and I was near hyperventilating. What's happening?
" It's ok John. You're having an anxiety attack. You out too much stress on yourself and now your body is reacting from it. I have these attacks too. Just follow my lead and breathe with me. " she said as she takes my good hand and placed it over her heart.
I can feel how calm down is by how steady her heart is beating. She starts to take exaggerated breathes so I can copy her and I then follow her instructions.
Soon enough I'm breathing normally again but I'm still shaking. She leads me over to the bed and sit me down on it. She then sits next to me.
" What's got you so worked up?" She asks.
" I'm not too sure. " I said to her.
" Have you been sleeping good? Any nightmares of your attack?" She asks.
I nod in reply to her question. " Why didn't you tell me you've been having nightmares?" She asks.
" I didn't want to worry you. " I said.
" John, it's my job to worry about my pack members. I wouldn't have put so much work on you if I had known you were going through all this. " she said.
" I can do the work though. If I don't do it I feel useless, like this hand injury is disabling me. " I tell her.
" I guess I can understand that. I felt the same when I set out on my own and started this pack, but you need to learn to accept help when it's being given to you. You're not useless John. " she said.
" My parents haven't seen me since I left. I want to show my dad that I'm not handicapped because of what those humans did to me. " I say to her.
" Sweetie, you're still healing. It's not going to get better overnight. I'm sure your father has gone through the same thing. Tell me this, do you think your dad healed overnight without any problems after his home pack was wiped out by rogues?" She asked.
I shake my head and keep silent. " Exactly. To this day he is still healing from the overwhelming trauma that attack caused him. All he has now is Alpha Conan. His other friend tried to kill his daughter. Imagine how hurt he was feeling when he learned his old friend was the villain here. He's still healing and sometimes it could be like a handicap to him, but does he let that stop him?" She asks.
I shake my head. " No, he's always been strong through it all." I said.
" Exactly and why do you think that is?" She asks.
" Because of the people he's had with him. " I said.
" Exactly. You can't heal on your own John. You have to rely on others in your time of need and that is what your father does every day. " said Alpha Grace.
I sigh and. I'd my head before smiling at her. " You're amazing, you know that?" I say to her.
" You tell me that every time I help you. Now, I want you to go to your room and rest. Take a good nap before your parents get here and tonight we will make sure they have a great time. " said Alpha Grace.
" Ok, I guess I can do that. " I said.
" Good. Now first, tell me the truth. Have you eaten anything today?" She asks.
I duck my head a little. " No, I haven't been hungry. " I said.
" It's ok. It's easy to lose yourself in work and anxiety. Let's go get you something to eat and then you go take a nap. You'll feel much better afterwards. " she said.
I nodded and allowed her to lead me to the small kitchen she has off to the side for her own use. It's close to where she sleeps.
She sits me down on a chair and gets to work making me something to eat. When she finally turns towards me she's carrying a paper plate with a classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich for me. I smile and vow to eat whatever she offers me.
She loves it in front of me along with a bottle of water and I set to eating. Once I've taken the first bite I realize just how hungry I actually am. I start to scarf down the rest and drink the entire bottle of water before looking at her again.
" Are you still hungry?" She asks.
I shake my head. I don't think I'd be able to stomach another sandwich anyway. She then ushers me off to bed and I head up to my room.
Once I'm there I quickly change into some comfier clothes and start up my fan for some noise. Once that's taken care of I turn off the light and lay down in bed and Omni time I'm sound asleep.
