Rebecca's POV.
As it's nearing nighttime Amber looked out the window and gasped. She then turned to me. I was currently holding her hand. We were on our way to the room for the night.
" Rebecca, have you ever seen fireflies before?" She asked me.
Fireflies? The name doesn't sound familiar to me. Things are so confusing sometimes. I shake my head. " No, I have no idea what those things are. " I told her over our mind link.
" They're these little bugs with tails that light up in the dark. They come out when the sun is setting. They're harmless and really pretty. " said Amber.
My eyes widen in wonder. Fireflies sound more amazing than any other type of bug I've seen before. " Really? They light up?" I ask.
She grins. " Yes they do. It's a really cool thing to see. I used to love catching them and I would often keep a few in a jar for a few days by my bed side before releasing them again. " said Amber.
" They sound amazing. I wish I could see one. " I said.
Amber's grin widens. " That leads me to this question. What would you say if I told you there were fireflies outside right now and we could go see them?" Asked Amber.
I was practically jumping up and down from joy. " Really? They're out there now? Please can we go see them? Pretty please?" I asked in a rush.
Amber giggled at my excitement and nodded. " Yes we can. Let's get your shoes back on and we'll go downstairs and see the fireflies. " said Amber.
I did as she said and we walked down the stairs to the front door and out onto the porch. It was getting pretty dark but Amber pointed out into the front yard. I didn't know what I was looking for until I saw a little flash of light.
My eyes widen and I gasped in. " What that it?" I asked.
" Yes, that was a firefly. Keep looking. There's so many out there right now. " said Amber.
I looked closer and sure enough there looked to be thirty or more of them out there. They all lit up at different times and it was so beautiful. " Let's get closer and go sit in the grass. They'll light up around us. " said Amber.
I nodded eagerly and she led me into the front yard and we sat in the grass. It looked like a story out of a book with all these little creatures lighting up around me. I looked to see Amber had her hands clasped together. She brought it closer to me and opened her hands.
On her palm was a small little bug. It then lit up. She had caught a firefly. The bug crawled around her hand for a second before lighting up, spreading its wings and taking off into the night sky to join its family.
" Woah." I said. At that moment I was too caught up in everything to realize I said that out loud and not in the mind link.
Amber grinned and didn't say anything. She merely sat with me as we watched the bugs light up around us as the sun continued to set.
" Would you like to try catching one?" Asked Amber.
I nodded and she showed me how to do it. You had to be fast yet gangle so you didn't crush the little guy once you had him in your hands.
It took me a few tries as I started to get angry. Amber gently took my hands and showed me how to do it. " Relax when you're doing this. Getting angry will just spoil your mood. Now, gently reach for one. " said Amber.
I followed her lead and allowed my anger to disappear. I was gentle and finally after many more tries I managed to catch one on my own.
I grinned widely and could feel it moving along my palm inside the little cage I had it in with my hands. " Look, look. I caught one. I did it. " I cried.
" Good job Rebecca. I'm so proud of you. " said Amber.
Those words filled me with such joy. I never had anyone aside from Miss Rebecca tell me they were proud of me. Amber already means so much to me.
I lifted and removed one of my hands and watched the little bug light up a few times before it spread its wings and flew away. It didn't go far before joining its family again and lighting up with them.
Amber and I spent a while out here until the sun was completely set and the fireflies were all but gone. I was so tired by then but very happy. " Are you ready for bed?" Asked Amber.
I nodded sleepily as I leaned heavily against Amber. She picked me up and walked me inside. Next thing I knew we were inside the bedroom and she sent me to the bathroom to get dressed for bed. When I returned she used the bathroom too and that's when I noticed Connor was already laying down reading a book.
" Hey." I said. My eyes glowing green.
He smiled at me and set his book down. Amber left the bathroom but cracked the door so some light came into the room since we didn't have a nightlight yet. It was just enough light for me.
" Did you have fun catching fireflies?" Asked Connor.
I nodded sleepily. " Good. You can tell me all about it in the morning. Let's all go to sleep. We've all had a long day. " said Connor.
We all laid down together and I snuggled up close to Amber's side for tonight and smiled. " Thank you for showing me the fireflies Amber. I had fun. " I said over our mind link.
Amber runs her fingers through my hair. " You are very welcome sweetie. We can do it again tomorrow if you want." She said.
I hummed in agreement and closed my eyes. I could hear Connor and Amber whispering to each other but all that did was send me into a deeper slumber as I drifted off into a night filled with wonderful dreams of the beautiful fireflies.
