Chapter 9- Pink Evolution

Fedor’s POV

The men were still laughing and making fun of me when we got back to Martha and we made our way to Biga, we were all lounging and drinking beer on the deck when Castle laughed out loud again. “You should have seen your face! My hazing was not as funny as this, they told me that it was taboo to wear trousers in a village called Sinema where women went when they wanted to be free of men, I wore miniskirts for three days but nothing could have prepared me for the fat suit.”

I wasn’t amused but the image of Castle in a mini skirt did make me smile, I swallowed a mouthful of beer’ “I wouldn’t be so happy if I were you. Chief Song, did you read my profile in detail or just the surface?” He had been relaxing and laughing without a care in the world at the side staring into the ocean, shades on his face perfectly suited for his character, he raised it up and smirked in response, “There was a part of it that illustrated my inability to let go of the past and forgive, so you understand that I will have my pound of flesh.” I promised and put as much venom as I could into my voice.

“Relax Fedor, it’s all initiation into the crew. Now you are a member, don’t sweat it, we all had to go through it at a point. Cheer up!” Joseph chuckled.

I laughed with them but without humor, “You should sleep with one eye open, I am starting with you and then I’ll make my way back to the top.” I threw a glance at Chief Song’s way.

“What exactly can you do? Beat us?” Ode asked in that creepy clean way he had of talking.

I shook my head, “Men, oh men! Violence never solves anything except when you are bullied by a fifteen-year-old short boy who pulled students’ pants down as a sport when I was ten. Turned out, violence does solve problems but I am a changed person.” I smiled wryly at them, there was an unsettling silence before Naim scoffed.

“She is bluffing.” He scoffed again.

“Sure,” I said nothing, I already had a plan in motion, sharing bathrooms had its perks, I had switched Joseph’s shampoo to my pink dye, it was too easy since they had the same coloring and it was killing two birds with a stone since I noticed Ode uses it for his beard. Joseph was in for a big shock tomorrow, the thought of the way he would react filled me with joy. Chief Song had his shades on but I could feel his gaze, I gave him a wink and went to my room to have a much-needed sleep. According to Martha, we would be in Biga in three days and that was a lot of time with someone who had nothing to do.

I had planned on changing the color of my hair for months but never had the guts to go through with it but I had been too lazy to drop it at home so it had always been in my bag and now it came in handy. Good thing the dye I had was edible, Naim liked his chewing gums and I had stolen the pack he was on and managed to sneak in a little of my secret weapon in there. “There are movies you could watch,” Martha said to me as I was preparing my little present for Castle.

“I’ll do that after I am done with this.” I carefully wrapped it when Martha snickered, “Hey, you can’t tell any of them this.”

“As long as they don’t ask direct questions, I cannot lie to members of the crew but you should know, I told the Chief that you would be angry but he did not listen. What do you have planned for him?” Martha was a tattletale apparently, even if she would not admit it, she was having way too much fun with this, I could tell by her excited pitch.

“Can you tell me anything about Kora? Anything that would help me?” I asked Martha hopefully.

She was quiet for a few minutes, I thought she had left to wherever AIs went or ignored me. “There was a ruckus once, Kora never woke up no matter how loud it got on the ship.” She answered very quietly.

I smirked at my newly formed plan for him, Martha wouldn’t lie to me, I was sure of that and I decided to forgive Carlos, Chief was right, he was a good cook, and it wouldn’t be a good idea to prank someone who cooked my meal and so I gracefully forgave him. I made my plans and executed them more perfectly than I could have imagined.

Chief Song’s POV

The look on Fedor’s face was the best thing to have happened to me in a long time, the betrayal she felt and glare made everything worth it. I couldn’t believe that she fell for it, I had saved the suit for when I might need it but this was worth it, she had spent the rest of the night mumbling and muttering to herself but I was satisfied, maybe I was depraved but I enjoyed every reaction I got from her and that continued until morning when I heard a Joseph scream from the bathroom. I was barely awake when I jostled and picked up my lamp to use as self-defense, I wasn’t aware of what I was holding, his shout had awoken many others, I heard another shout but from Castle’s room. What was happening?! I checked to see if Fedor was okay but I hadn’t heard anything from her room. Joseph opened the bathroom glowing, no that couldn’t be right. His hair was wet with a shiny shade of pink, I controlled every nerve that nearly made me burst out in laughter, Naim did not have the same reservations I did and laughed out loud at the sight.

I had a sinking suspicion and it was confirmed by Fedor’s door opening and her looking seemingly satisfied just before she joined Naim. Then she glowered at him, “You are not any better, you should take a good look at your teeth.” Naim stopped laughing abruptly and pushed Joseph out of the way, there was a menacing growl from the bathroom, Fedor had started laughing like a villain from a terrible movie. Ode walked slowly into our midst, even I could not stop the grin in my face when I saw Ode’s beard, I was just a man for goodness sake! Ode was not a small man but he was not a big man, whatever hair refused to grow on his hair grew on his beard and it looked like Fedor had gotten to him. Naim had been walking dangerously towards Fedor when he got distracted by Ode’s pink beard and started laughing then as if remembering the color of his teeth, he covered his mouth.

Castle opened the door with force and glowered in Fedor’s direction, his entire face and neck were as if someone had thrown pink paint on him, and it was quite a picture. Fedor was laughing and holding her stomach on the ground. The only person who was not here was Kora, it occurred to me that I was unscathed. Was I? I moved past Naim to the bathroom, my hair was still black, my face was untouched by pink, everything seemed to be going well for me, or was it?

“Oh Chief, that would be too mundane for you.” Fedor told me as she leaned on the wall, the men had cussed at her and threatened her but here she was unfazed.

Kora opened his door, his eyes heavy with sleep, he made his way to the bathroom ignoring our presence and tried to zip his trousers down but he couldn’t which frustrated him more, he had to open his eyes, his face morphed from confusion to horror, Fedor had replaced his nails with artificial pink ones and had apparently added pink blush and lipstick to his face. Was that… Was that fake eye lashes? I could no longer control myself as I laughed in his face and moved him to a mirror, the others laughed at each other’s present state.

Fedor cut me off, “Chief Song, oh Chief! The plans I have for you!”
