CHAPTER 57- NERVES
*SONG’S POV*
The world stopped, It wasn’t what she said but the way she looked at me, this moment was a treasure I would cherish forever, I knew it would haunt me for the rest of my days, her glassy eyes and sincere grin as she took in my expression. My mouth went dry before I responded in a whisper because my voice had failed me. “I love you too.”
She grinned and shrugged before turning her back, “I know.” Like she had not made time stop for me, when she asked about my deal with money earlier, I had been terrified that this would be a deal breaker and a moment where she would realize that she was better off without me, not that I was going to let her go without a fight. Fedor was honest and I appreciated that, I figured I owed her the same in return and went against my nature and told her the truth as well even though I might have avoided certain truths. I had nothing against money, I knew it was an important part of life, I wasn’t idealistic or stupid to think I could do without it, It just wasn’t a treasure to me, I guessed maybe I was privileged in more ways than I have realized and I knew its importance. I just didn’t care as much and after that look from Fedor, I understood how important it was for her and I knew how much she must have let go of to be with me and now I had fallen short and that did not sit well with me at all. It was time to take action with this, she was right about the numite copy, maybe if I took my time with it as I did with Martha, I could have made a headway by now. George would have a field day with this when I tell him about what I had decided to do. How could she sleep so easily? I was trying to distract myself from the fact that her lush body was against mine. Who knew the girl could give just as good as she got, I thought it would be easy for her to fold, I had forgotten how shameless she could be.
I smiled remembering the first time I had met her and how she had stared at me without fear and that little tilt in her mouth as she checked me out appreciatively if I might add, who knew she would mean so much to me someday. I must have known, from the moment I couldn’t tear my eyes away from hers or the number of times I daydreamed about her lips and how hard I tried to pretend she wasn’t getting to me. There was no out for me from the start, I chuckled about the time I discovered that she had fearlessly gotten into a ship without any knowledge of how to swim. I remembered how mad I was, I could not wrap my head around how carefree she was and the way she looked at me wondering why I was so angry. I did not know why I was frustrated either. I hugged her tighter as I knew that I would miss her dearly, and I hated more than anything how I was unable to do anything without drawing unnecessary attention to ourselves.
Somehow, I had dozed off and when I woke, she was no longer on the bed. I followed the scent of coffee to the sitting room and while I could not appreciate the view of my shirt that had become a shirt on her with oversized trousers as well, I grasped at why this was a thing, watching your woman wear your cloth. It gave this sense of satisfaction, I was shirtless usually when I was alone but with her I was even more motivated to be more shirtless. I was aware of her obsession with the scar on my stomach, I never paid it much mind before but now I was grateful for the scar that was a reminder of a life I had left behind. I leaned in the door while I watched as she played possum with the coffee maker; I chuckled as she jumped backwards at the splash it made. She saw me and as I expected her eyes went straight to my stomach, I brimmed with contentment as her eyes went lower and she swallowed before her expression changed into a glare.
She hissed and murmured, “Don’t be showoff, If I put my mind to it, I could have just as much packs and scars.
I laughed at that, “Good Morning to you too as well.”
She looked back at the machine, “That thing is possessed.”
“Shawn is just misunderstood.”
“You named your Coffee machine?”
“No, I am just messing with you.”
She threw her head back and laughed then the trousers I had given her fell, I grinned as I watched her retie the rope like it was no big deal which meant that this had happened before. She looked my waist again and shook her head, “I was so sure I had a bigger butt, it is just not fair for me. How could you have both the chest and the butt in this relationship, then you also have the brains.” She sighed dramatically and nodded to herself mostly, “It is a good thing that I bring life, humor and some color, I guess it’s a fair game. You’ll be the beauty and I the brawn and the party.”
Fedor giggled as she sized up her arm, “What do you think? Powerful enough to protect you?” She asked.
“I feel safe already,” I answered and kissed her softly, by the seas she was the cutest thing to walk the surface of the earth and she was mine. Fully and solely mine, truly mine and that made life finally worth living. The poets hadn’t lied about love, it was everything and more.
“The way you look at me, it could make me pregnant.” She whispered as she hugged me.
“Is that what you want?”
“God …. No.”
I laughed and carried her to the table, “Say the word and you’ll have me right here and right now.” I turned off the machine behind her, it was fast becoming an accident waiting to happen.
She chortled, “Song, I already have you.”
“Ah… The confidence.”
“Please, you are obsessed and I don’t blame you.” I laughed at that and she held my face in her slim hands, “Do you know how long you were watching me last night, I had to hold my stomach in until I was sure you slept and then I discovered that I could not sleep and here I am, lacking both sleep, coffee and food?”
I was surprised that she had been awake and did she just say, “Hold your stomach in?”
“I had a big dinner last night thanks to certain someone.” She laid accusing eyes at me.
She was a treat for sure, “You…” I tried to touch her stomach and she slapped it away as she frowned. I pressed my head into hers, “I love everything that is you Fedor, I do not want to make you uncomfortable in any way and you are sexy in every way that counts. You have nothing to worry about.”
“Says the guy walking about without an ounce of fat but yeah, you’re right. I am sexy in every way that counts.” She kissed me softly at first then used her legs to bring me closer, kissing sounds filled up the kitchen as I grabbed her tighter.
“Please.” I groaned with need.
“You giving in?” She whispered.
“I never had a chance, did I?” I murmured back.
She smirked, “Unfortunately for you, something else is boss.” I frowned in confusion, “Period, cramps, nausea, and the usual feelings of irritation and self-loathe.” She shivered and pushed me away.
“I don’t get it.”
“Oh, Menstruation, you know cycle… every woman goes through it every month, it is the …”
“Fedor! You know what I mean.” I held her hand and she squeezed and I sighed, “You were playing me to get me to fold.”
“Well, you had to know who was boss.” She kissed my cheek.
“You know that wouldn’t stop me…”
“I suspected but it would absolutely deter me. I want food on ice cream and that is what I shall have.” I could see the cravings in her eyes. I laughed and she glared, I kept my mouth shut immediately.
“Do you need anything else?”
“What are we going to do?” She asked.
“About?”
“Work, I saw that you go on another mission tomorrow and it could take an average of two months. I don’t know if I can do two months without you especially when that is not even the …” I kissed her before she could complete the sentence. I was so used to her changing the topic abruptly that I wasn’t even surprised this time. “That was good, do it again.” She told me.
“We will be fine.” I told her as I went back into the room and came back to hand her a tableca, “This would give you a direct line to my phone. It is unsupervised and encrypted as well, it would not be enough but it would have to be enough for now, I am more concerned about how you would fit in, I honestly do not see you sorting papers.” I tried to change the direction because I wasn’t sure if I could do two months as well but there was nothing else I could do except finish as soon as possible.
“True, I resume work tomorrow and you don’t have to be worried about me. I would fit in fine, you did not think I would do well with you at first, I can fit in everywhere, it is a gift.” She assured then looked at the tableca, “So apart from contact you, what else can this thing do?”
I paused and she eyed me, I answered; “Remote access to Martha but you don’t have to worry, you won’t have to do anything.”
“You trust me not to do anything careless with this?” She wiggled her brows in question.
I laughed, “If you can figure it out, sure.”’
“Is that a challenge?”
“No, it is not.”
She hissed and made me bring out tools to fix the machine, she obviously knew what she was doing. By the time she was done, Shaun no longer made the noise, and now I was calling my coffee machine by a name. We spent the day ordering takeouts and doing nothing which was my favorite thing to do with her, she introduced me to a TV show she was obsessed with about werewolves and vampires, and we argued about which was more powerful. She believed that vampires were stronger and prettier while I contested with the fact that werewolves could change forms which made them much more impressive. We got to talking about our childhoods, weird quirks, and many other things that I would rather do than anything else. Soon, it was morning and we had to go back to our real lives, Fedor resumed work the next day and I had to prepare for our trip. The car was quiet on our way back to her place, before we separated, Fedor muttered in a tight hug that we would be fine, I did not know who she was trying to convince, me or herself.
