Chapter 68- Make or Break

*Chief Song POV*

I was trying to figure out if she was kidding then I remembered that she did not have the same principles I did and took a deep breath. I did not want to upset her and I hoped to heavens that the plunge in my stomach was because of something bad I had eaten. I heard her sigh on the other end of the call, “I did not ask for the money, it came to me freely and I doubt they would collect it back, if they had one million Khurs to waste, why would I return it back? I see it as redistribution of wealth.”

“She gave you to bribe you, your acceptance means acceptance! Or do you have plans to get married to Kurt, if you don’t then you are morally obligated to return the money!” I spoke to her like I was talking to an irrational person, it goes without saying that it was the right thing to do.

Fedor scoffed, “First, I am going to ignore that tone you just took with me, I am not a child nor am I a crazy person at least not tonight. Secondly, she would never assume that my acceptance of the money means that I would get married to Kurt, she knows me better than that, she has called me an ambitious superficial fraud several times so I assure you, her expectations of me is to the ground. Thirdly, where did you get the blueprint that I am supposed to return the money when I had made no declaration or signed any contract telling them that I would do as they say and you are the one being crazy, do you have any idea what I could do with a million khurs? Return it? Return it?”

“You are kidding, right?” She could not be serious. I heard her tone change when I asked.

“No, I don’t understand why I have to return it.”

“It is not yours to keep!” I was barely holding myself together from shouting.

She sneered, “Tell my bank account that, it is in my name and all. If you cannot get it, then see it as compensation for years of insult gotten from that woman and they have more than enough, why do I have to give them more.”

I took a beat for patience and calmly responded, “So what do you plan to do about it?” She murmured and I did not hear, “What?”

“Return it!” She screamed at me.

“What?”

“What?”

“I told you the same thing and you called me crazy.” I was astounded.

Fedor clicked her tongue before answering, “I am not returning it because it is the right thing to do, that is stupid. I am returning it because she already paid for what she did to me, you see; I was stuck with hospital debts after my parents died and all of a sudden, the debtors stopped coming around citing bad debts. I always had doubts about it because it all happened at the same time but I did not question my good fortune before my luck changed. I found out recently that she had cleared the debt all this while and I had thought she was a Devil’s incarnate but underneath all of that expensive suit was a human being, it is not that I want to return the one million Khurs for something as fickle as moral obligation but because she had already given me something way more than money. Peace of mind.”
