Chapter 27: Tornado

*Fedor’s POV*

I did nothing wrong but why did it feel like I did everything wrong, before he could get a word in, I ate the meat, It tasted like nothing and while I was awake, it took me a while to know the right words to say, I used the chewing to buy myself time. “Before you get a word in, I just woke up after two days, two days is it?” I turned to Kurt.

“Yes, she has been here for two days in only a robe on my bed. You happened to come in before anything exciting happened. Disappointing, I tell you.” Kurt smirked at him.

Chief sharpened his look at me but did not give Kurt any attention, I knew Kurt was enjoying my circumstances. “Two days?”

I swallowed, “I did not mean to, I was going to have my bath and go back to Martha but the soft bed…” my voice trailed off as I heard myself, as innocent as all that was, to Chief it probably sounded flimsy.

He walked closer and sat on the chair opposite me without saying one more word and that unsettled me more than anything he would have said. I closed my eyes wondering what I would do then it occurred to me, what did I do so wrong? Why am I trembling with guilt? It wasn’t like he was my boyfriend and if anything I was a victim of circumstances; I would not regret a much needed sleep because a man who had been unconscious decided to… who am I kidding?! I had no front, I chose to come here, I chose to indulge in the sinful pleasure of Kurt’s bath tub and I knew I did that to give Chief space for my thoughts only that I hadn’t done much thinking and just slept like a log of wood. My stomach grumbled reminding me of the mutton and red wine, nice! Red wine. I dropped my fork and aimed for the cup of wine when Chief grabbed it away from my grasp and glared at me. I wasn’t brave enough to look at him in the eye and so I continued to eat with my head down.

“Interesting. You can talk back at me and yet you can’t stand up for yourself with him. I am almost hurt.” Kurt said teasingly.

“Shut up.” I mumbled mouth full.

He chuckled, “see what I mean?”

“Can I have the wine now? I am thirsty.” I looked up at an intense Chief, calm my beating heart but why did he look more handsome?

He passed me a bottle of water instead and waited for me to finish, I had no excuse anymore and the silence was killing me, why was he sitting there and staring? It was unnerving. Kurt seemed to be the only person having fun and I glowered at his grin. He got shirt and shorts for me to wear, “I doubt you want to wear that back to your ship, take this.”

Chief finally looked at him, he collected the clothes instead and grabbed my hand as he led me out of Kurt’s cabin, I wasn’t surprised and at the same time I was aware of the state of my hair as he strutted and I jogging a little to keep up with him. “Okay Caveman, my legs are not as long as yours!” He slowed down but didn’t acknowledge me, the men avoided my eyes as we passed until we got to Martha, Naim had been on the deck, his eyes widened in surprise when he saw me and I shrugged as a response. Chief kept pulling me with him until we got to his room where he shut the door behind and let me go. I watched him pace himself up and down his space, he might have pulled his hair once or twice while he was at it, I tried to say something. “Shhhhhhhh…”
