Chapter 70: Power

*Fedor’s POV*

“I have a request,” I said just before we got into a house that I thought would not exist in real time, I had mixed feelings about the way she stared at me, like an object but an object she was proud of which was weird, considering that I don’t consider myself a creation of hers. Every line of makeup on my face was done to her satisfaction, I did not mind because I liked what I looked like and I was convinced she had impeccable style so there was no need to fight, I was choosing my battles. I had no illusion about what she thought of me, forget everything she had said so far; I had highlighted four truths. One, she would not have cared about me if I had no worth, I was a means to an end for her, she is not completely without a conscience and lastly, the moment I lose my worth; she would discard me like I never existed and I preferred it that way. There was no use getting emotionally entangled with her likes, we were different in ways I could not even put on paper. Queen was a chief manipulator and I’ll admit first that sometimes I could not tell the difference between when she was being calculative and being real, I was fascinated by her and that was why I went along with whatever she had planned. Also, I was curious about how people like her live, interact and I wondered if they used the loo as well. It wasn’t like I had a choice anyway, I might as well enjoy the experience.

She wore another white midi gown that made her look even more icy than usual; “What is it dear?”

I ignored the dear comment and answered, “The moment I feel uncomfortable, I will leave.”

“That means you should be ready to leave at the entrance. This is an environment that you are not used to, of course you would be uncomfortable. I can promise you this though, once I see that it is too much, we would leave without a doubt.” I don’t understand why she thought that was a compromise if it was dependent on what she felt.

I snorted, “Nah, wouldn’t work. I am not naïve to not know that the wheels in your head are turning, since we have established that I would be uncomfortable regardless, why don’t we do an hour? After an hour, I should be allowed to leave if I want to.” Her brow raised slightly in surprise.

“An hour? You think you can last an hour?” She dared.

I took a breath, “Wait, an hour is too much by you?”

“I don’t even last 45 minutes before I want to gouge someone’s eyes out and I grew up this way.” She smiled amused by what I would assume was my ignorance.

I narrowed my eyes at her in challenge, “We’ll see.”

We got down and made our way inside, and I did not even bother concealing my surprise, what kind of family dinner was so… so showy. The chandelier resembled the sun and the moon at the same time, I thought Queen would scold and tell me not to embarrass her but she seemed genuinely amused by my reaction. I did not even notice the people, nothing could match the magnificence of the room. Queen leaned it as she held my hand, “My grandmother handpicked every single piece in the room, she was a goddess when it came to interior decorations. You should see the view from that window, come with me.” She glided through the room, I said glided because I had no idea how she moved that fast so effortlessly but before we could get to our destination, we were accosted by a blond elderly woman with blue eyes and a scornful smile. She had a younger woman who was an exact copy by her side and from the look of things, she had a mission; it was the first time I had seen anyone look at Queen with  open hostility and because I had been distracted by the intimidating structure I did notice at first but most people stared at Queen the same way. “It is proper manners to come early to a family banquet and even more ladylike to do your salutations, have I not expressed this to you many times?”
