Chapter 90: PART ONE

*Fedor’s POV*

Queen laughed, she must have been in a good mood today because this was a record for the number of times I’d seen her laugh, it suited her. “I guess in a way but since we’d be divorcing soon, I don’t think that would be an issue. Carl has tried for years to get rid of me, I am sure he would not mind my business once this over and done with.”

“Did you at any time love him?”

“Once, I was crazy in love with him but he never felt the same way, I suspect that it must be part of why I stayed this long, thing is love can quickly turn distasteful especially when it is not returned. I resented him for so long and now, I want to live the rest of my life doing what I want and whenever I want. Look at that sunset, beautiful…”

Queen had many looks, vulnerable was not one of them and watching her distract herself from her thoughts made her more human than I had ever seen her, I said nothing as I held her hand and watched the sunset with her. The ride home was solemn and comfortable, She then commented on my ring; “Beautiful ring… I am impressed.”

“Thank you.” I answered.

“I hope this love you both have outlasts everything else.”

I kept quiet because I know what she meant,  and I changed the subject, “Does Kurt know that I am probably his sister?” Now, I shuddered and cringed at that thought, who knew settling into this new role was more difficult than seeing Queen as a mother figure.

“You don’t have to rush yourself, you can still call me Queen and slowly ease into this new life, I am not in a hurry. I’ll wait.” She told me and watching her drive to Song’s house without me telling her was not as disconcerting as it should be, but I was curious as to how she keeps in touch with everything that goes on in my life.

“Do you like get daily reports about what happens to me? Or is it more like an hourly thing because you know everything, do you know about my browser history as well?”

“You mean your new interests in dark romances?” She raised her brow amused by me.

“You realize that this is in no way healthy, at all… How do you have time to do anything else?”

Queen caught the stray hair that escaped and put it at the back of her hair, “Healthy is subjective and if I thought it made you uncomfortable in any way, I would have stopped by now but you don’t mind. I think that is what we should worry about, your non challance that someone has access to everything that you do, you should be creeped out, but if I dare to say; it is almost like you enjoy the attention.” She threw it back into my court and even though I had pondered why I did not mind and almost seemed grateful even, the best course of action was to not think about it.

“Let’s never talk about it and please stay away from my browser history, that’s too much even for me.” I dropped from her car to the sound of her laughter, she stayed until I got into the house.

Chief was waiting for me, he wrapped me in his arms immediately I entered, “I missed you. I don’t like being in here without you.”

I smiled as I delved into his scent and hugged him back, just before I handed him an envelope; he looked at me questioningly, he opened and burst into laughter, “Of course.” He said just before pointing at the table, “I had a surprise for you as well.”

Song looked too amused, I opened the white envelope to also see another marriage license and I chuckled, and looked at him; “What?!”

“I know!” He grinned and wheeewww, I know I had said this before but this man was beautiful and breathtaking, I could not believe he was mine. It was too good to be true.

“How?” Hoping frantically with all of me that he had not sold those prototypes.

“We succeeded,” he said calmly and gauged my reaction like he wanted to take everything in and not miss a single bit.

My heart skipped, “What?”

“We succeeded, stroke of luck one could call it,” He grinned as I took what he was saying in.

“F33?”

“47 actually, We have been working long hours, extra hands, extra brains.” He tickled my nose with his, I took a step back and wondered how many days I’d been missing.

I laughed a little at first, then I heard myself chuckling like a maniac before releasing a full blown laughter, “Seriously? It worked?”

“It worked.”

I hugged him so hard that I was surprised he did not break his neck, how was everything working out so smoothly, “My God, how are you able to get…?”

“George bought a stake, it was more than enough to get everything settled, he is more of a partner than a share holder; let’s be honest, I would need him to handle the people part of the business. You know how good I am with …”

I kissed him, “This is good, this is so good. Why am I anxious all of a sudden?”

“Its so good?” He held me in his arms and I closed my eyes and prayed that this was not a dream, “you’re shaking.”

“I know, I don’t know why.”

He held me close until I settled, I had no idea why  I was this way, it was too good to be true, everything was going smoothly, two marriage licenses and one class upgrade in one day, then got a mother and a brother, oh dear; that is a lot. “I take it you got adopted.” Song patted my back softly.

“A piece of paper, that’s all it took.”

“That’s what it usually takes. Are you okay?”

“I don’t know but I think I have an overload of happiness.” I buried my face into his chest.

He kissed me sweetly, “I have to tell you something before we start the wedding preparations.” He sounded a little nervous, I nodded for him to go ahead wondering what he would have to say, “I am not sure I want to have children unless it is something that you’d want, at least for the next five years, I want you all to myself.”

I paused and frowned, “Children? I … I don’t know, I have not thought that far off but I have never seen myself as a mother, not even when I had the plan. Somehow that had never factored, but sure; I don’t have any strong feelings about them except for this; if you can’t afford them, then don’t have them and I don’t think any of us can afford them.”

He grinned with relief, “So, same page.”

“Yeah, same page.”

“Out of curiosity, when you wanted to marry up; you did not think you’d need to have a child?” He sounded concerned.

I shrugged in his arms, “I had not thought that far yet.”

“Really?”

“Really.”

“I should not be surprised by anything you do but somehow I am.” He shook his head. “How is Kurt taking the news of you being his sister?”

“I have not said a word to him about that, it is weird and since we are not blood related, I don’t think it would be a problem. I cannot tell with him, I went from him wanting to get married to him to being his sister, sister… that word is odd.”

“One step at a time.”

“One step at a time.” I repeated.

The next day I went to the library and told Taylor the news, she was happier than I was and she had all these wedding themes ready, I was not surprised to see Kurt there shortly after, he and Taylor had developed a weird friendship; once Taylor left us alone, he wasted no time in delving into our new relationship status.

“Sister? Huh… You should have talked to me before agreeing to that.”

I wanted to defend myself but then I thought about it, he was right, I should have. “I should have, I am sorry. Believe it or not, the thought did not occur to me. Is it that unbearable for you?”

“Oh no, I have nothing to lose in it, I guess it is not a bad idea but you don’t know my mother like I do, she never does anything without a reason and those reasons usually don’t involve emotions. If that is what she told you, I do not care how much she says she has changed, she lied. Queen only makes that kind of decision when it would favour her, how? That is what I could not figure out.”

I smiled, “I know.”

“You do?”

“Common, your mother has changed in some ways but that drastic a change is impossible for anyone. I spent few years with her when we were younger, I know she has an ulterior motive.” It was very clear, even if Queen thought she was playing me, I knew her better than she thought I did.

Kurt looked strangely at me, “Then why did you agree?”

“A payback, no matter her intentions; she has helped me over the years and she seemed to need this, it was my way of thanking her. I have a couple of theories about why she would need a daughter but I decided to not bother and focus on other stuff like my marriage.” I showed off my ring to him.

He took a deep breath, “I keep underestimating you, if anyone can handle Queen; it is you and I could have gotten you a better ring.”

“How are you still on a break?”

“Some of us have paid our dues and are not interns anymore,” He threw back and I growled at him.

“I heard of a new material in the market, F47 they are calling it; lighter than Numite yet just as strong. He might be a strong headed man, but he is a genius especially if this is true.” Kurt commented casually and I wiggled my brows at him.

“I have good taste in men.” I boasted.

His eyes twinkled mischievously, “Yes you do, you wanted to marry me too as well; I cannot fault your taste.”

I slapped his arm, “Be respectful to your sister.”

“I am older, you be respectful.” He slapped me back.

Taylor joined us and we focused on less heavier things, we went back to the Café and spent the rest of the day talking about nothing, and I also discovered that Kurt thinks Taylor would be perfect to fulfil the wife role I had declined, Taylor on the other hand is a romantic and would only get married for love which led to another one of their exhausting arguments. I doubted they even noticed my absence as I left them and took a walk. I was stuffed and the evening breeze was tempting enough to walk slowly until the next bus station, this was before a large black car stopped in front of me with tinted windows. Once it came down, Jawan in his black suit came into view, he looked at me with so much hatred that my body visibly vibrated. “Get in,” He spat out.

“No, thank you.” I tried walking away.

“Girl, get in the car while I still ask.”

I blew out hot air as I faced him, was I intimidated by him? Yes, Would I show it? No, Am I scared that he might kill me? Yes, I hoped that whoever reported to Queen told her if I did get kidnapped, “Maybe if you asked nicely.”

“Get in the car and stop being dramatic.” Rwan said from the front seat.

So it was a family ambush, this was interesting; “No, I do not want to die especially not by your hands.”

“I have better things to do than have your blood on my hands, “ Rwan replied.

Jawan looked like he was bearly keeping from tearing me apart. I looked up at the sky and muttered to myself that the day had been going too good, this was bound to happen. “Sure, since you all are so delightful.” The door opened and instead of enter, I ran for my life. I was brave, but not that brave.
