Chapter 34; Mine
*Chief Song POV*
There are times when she would surprise me and I would be speechless and this was one of those times, of course, I knew she was joking but that did not stop the way my heart skipped or why I froze as a picture of us being married popped in my head. I had to pull the brakes, we barely knew anything about each other but why was I reeling with joy even though I knew that it was a fantasy? Fedor smirked, “relax Chief, it was a joke. I thought that was apparent with me calling you wife. You look green and red at the same time, breathe. Breathe.” Fedor had stood was calming me by tapping my head awkwardly.
“No… That’s not …” My mouth was dry and I swallowed. “I was taken aback, that’s all and for a moment it wasn’t bad.”
She grinned, “I had hoped that the idea of getting married to me would give you a feeling that was more than wasn’t bad.” She did air quotes for the ‘wasn’t bad” part, I didn’t know if she misunderstood my intention or if she was kidding and I wasn’t willing to take the chance that she understood what I was trying to say.
“No, I meant that… we don’t …. It’s …” I was trying to put my feelings into words and failing miserably. Fortunately, she was amused with my tongue tied state if her smile was anything to go by. I took a deep breath and tried to formulate my thoughts into words, “What I was trying to say was that …” She held my hand and entwined it with hers.
“I know; I know what you meant. Please let’s go on with the date, you were about to give me a show with your cooking skills.” She picked up a white wine and opened just before going back to sit with her legs crossed while she stared at me and drank directly from the bottle. I looked at her for a while before she pointed at the marinated chicken meaning I needed to continue.
“If you were trying to seduce me, you succeeded.” I started with the food.
She tittered, and shrugged, “If I wanted to seduce you, I have a feeling it wouldn’t take much. You have the most intense eyes; they convey a lot.”
“That is new, I have been told differently. I have the best poker face; the eyes must be for you then.” I teased and continued cooking. I wasn’t looking at her so I wondered why she was quiet, I faced her and saw that her attention was on my hands. “I can’t tell if you are spelled by my hands or the chicken, I do not know how to feel being jealous of a dead chicken.”
She snorted, “Good then, there is nothing to be jealous of, I was looking at your hand. I could not help but notice, you have lots of scars. Is that because of the fight club or you were a clumsy teenager?” I know she thought she was being clever but I would have answered anyway no matter how she had asked.
“Fight Club, it was a no-rules kind of thing.”
“Was that how you got the one on your stomach, or was it intentional? You know, a map for your endless women to locate the part that was important.” I smirked, she was jealous. Why did I just figure that out? She did not like that I had been with other people and that made me happy, there was the word again. She made me happy, it didn’t matter if she was talking to me or fighting me, the simple sense was that I was happy when I was with her.
