Chapter 80 – Petty

*Fedor’s POV*

There are several types of insanity and I have encountered several but I had received more than enough shock for the day and in as much as I would love to rub the fact that Chief was mine in Rwan’s nose, I had no intention of meeting her father. I had seen pictures of him; he looked exactly like what what you would expect a villain to look like especially with the customized walking stick and jelled hair, I would not be surprised if he kept a knife at the end of his stick. I was not ready to meet him and I told him exactly that but Chief did not express the same reservations I did.

“When he calls, he expects perfect obedience and I will not leave you alone so what do you propose that we do?” I knew he was goading me but I was not the reason for his attachment issues, okay I was but that was besides the point.

“Song please, I just discovered that my entire life had a twist; I do not want to meet your perfect looking sister that wants in your pants father,” I hissed.

Chief sighed, “I want you take a deep breath and think about what you just said.”

“I don’t regret it.”

“You should.”

“Why? You see her as a sister and she sees you not as a brother but as … well you know; talking about pretty redheads, common; you can’t say you have never been attracted to her. Even I can admit to her perfect good looks, I would completely understand if you saw yourself as more to her like when you were a teenager. Teenage boys and their hormones; go ahead talk to me.” I must like being punished because why would I even ask that and more importantly why did I care so much that she knew him before I did and had known different stages of this man before me.

Chief gave me a look, “I am not falling for that Fedor.”

“What does that even mean? For you to fall for a trap means there has to be something to fall for,” I gasped aloud. “Take me home! I can’t stand this.”

Song snickered, “I have never been attracted to Rwan and I will never be. Is that alright?”

“Why do I feel like a child that needs to be …?”

“I am not going to fight with you so that you use that as an excuse to avoid this and if you must know, he has arranged what he thinks is the perfect match for me. Do you not want to defend your man’s honor?” I knew he was playing with me but he would not lie about this.

“Seriously?”

“Yes, I think the only way he would take me serious is if he meets you himself and understands how much you mean to me. He might not have been the perfect guardian but he fed, clothed and housed me for more than half my life, he is the closest I have to a father no matter our differences and if I do not get his blessings regarding our relationship; he deserves to at least have enough knowledge regarding us.” He stared at me in that sincere manner he did as he drove.

I was resigned to the fact that I was meeting his father sort of, “I am not dressed properly. An oversized shirt and shorts is not what I thought I would be wearing when I met him and I imagined it would also be in a distant future.”

“It’s okay, it adds to your charm.” I did not know how to take it but based on his excitement, I decided to take it as a good thing.

“If Rwan is wearing a beautiful gown with a plunging neckline, I will do stuff.” I threatened but he was more amused than scared of me.

He held my hand, “It is only a simple meeting. You might not even have to say a word, and do not take this the wrong way; Jarum is condescending to everyone.”

“That must be where Rwan got her sparkling personality.” I muttered and he laughed. “At least, let me get something better to wear, I do not want him to think any less of me than he does already.”

“Okay.” He took me to a store closeby and I wore a green sundress, I knew what the color did to my tone and eyes, my white sneakers were enough while I allowed my hair run free, I fixed my eyeliner, I wasn’t at my best but I definitely looked better which in turn made me feel better. The hungry stare on Chief made the detour all worth it, “Close your mouth Chief.” I smirked and held his hand as we went into the car.

I noticed he got more tense as we neared our destination, I held his hand to provide moral support, I was consumed by my worry that I forgot his complicated relationship with this man as well; this might actually be harder for him than it was for me. He squeezed my hand as he entered the automated gate, this was a mansion; not as big as Queen’s but a different aesthetic, it felt old and noble and the uniformed guards did not help as well. There was a difference between wealth and Power, they both work hand in hand but it was possible to have more wealth than power or more power than wealth. This man seemed the later, I was not expecting his grumpy face to me at the entrance to the house, he leaned on his cane as Chief drew nearer, when we walked closer, he did not even bother to acknowledge my presence. I saw Chief tighten as he covered me with his frame. “Jarum.”

“Song. Walk with me.”

His echo-like voice took me by surprise, Chief walked with me and I noticed Jarum’s grunt as he saw I was still with them. We did not go into the house but walked through the gardens; I noticed the curious looks and subtle nods at Chief, then it dawned on me that this was where Chief grew up. I had all the necessary information but I was not prepared for this, I doubted if Queen had as much help and security as he did, I could not help but compare both since they were my references for wealth. He led us to a place with chairs as tall as I was; it smelt of old books and tea. There was a square-like table in the middle of the long chairs, I did not notice the cold at first because of how nervous I was and I shivered.

“She will wait here while we talk.” Jarum ordered.

“She… is Fedor, the woman I am with; She- deserves respect, Just because you pretend she is not here will not take away her existence.”

“Do not be cheeky with me boy!” He narrowed his eyes at me.

Chief scoffed, “I have not been a boy for a long time Jarum and if you would open your eyes, you would see that.”

“Do you want her to witness me reprimand you like a spoilt brat?” He fumed.

I raised my hand, “It’s okay, you can go with him. I can handle myself unless the chairs suddenly have life, I would be fine.” I joked but none of them were in the mood for humor. I had never seen Chief like this, family could do that to anyone. Not that I was an expert on the matter.

“Fedor…”

“Go, it is okay.”

“A woman of her class, telling you what to do and when to speak to me is unfathomable, it is time that you come home son! I have had enough of your childish whims and you will speak to me like the way you have been trained, with respect!” Jarum thundered and I could feel my ear ring.

I thought that I was helping by interfering but that did not sit down well with this man, Rwan entered the study; I finally figured what this place was beyond the size of this man’s ego; and of course, she was in a green dress as well with a plunging neckline. I faced Chief in my I told you so face as she held her father’s arm, “You promised father.”

“He is being disrespectful.” I must have raised my brows at that because Jarum’s sharp focus went to me. I wanted to pull away from the eye contact, it made me feel like a prey and he was a snake but I was frozen to remove my gaze until he finally did and I let out a breath.

“Oh dear, he is intimidating.” I must have said that aloud as I felt all three of them stare at me, since it was already out there and there was no taking it back, I shrugged, “It can’t have been the first time you have heard that, you are intimidating.”

“Girl.” He said in a menacing tone.

“Sir.” I answered.

“What does your father do?”

“He’s dead.”

“Your mother?”

“I’ll save you the stress; everyone’s dead.”

That led to a pause as Jarum looked at Chief as if to say; really? Her?... “So you are no use to anyone then?”

“Jarum!!!” Chief shouted but he ignored him, I saw Rwan’s snide smile and I let out a breath because I was beginning to get angry.

“I am only getting to know her.” He sat one of those tall chairs and gestured to me and everyone else; I commended myself internally for being composed despite my beating heart. Chief was glued to me, I found his hand by the side and squeezed, it was funny that despite him knowing what to expect, the man still got to him. I wished I could protect him for that because I was not offended or affected by anything he had done or said so far but I would find pleasure in scratching Rwan’s eyes out.

I whispered, “I am fine Song. I really am.”

Chief looked disbelievingly at Jarum instead and whispered back, “I am not.”

“What can you do for him?” He asked.

“What?” I blinked.

“You heard me.”

“Oh…”

“I did not come here for this, you summoned me; why?” Chief cut into the conversation.

This was hardcore! There was tension between them! Jarum narrowed his eyes, “You brought her here, have you forgotten about actions and consequences. I made you into the man you are today yet you spit at every way I have made to make you a man your mother would be proud of; at first I thought like every man; they would be rebellious moments but I have had enough!”

A young blonde lady came in from the place where Jarum had been leading Chief to; she was elegant as a princess, her face was half covered with her hat and when she spoke, you had to listen even though her voice was as soft as the waters, “I am sorry but I could not help but overhear everything. Hello Song, it’s me; I am back.”

Chief was flustered which was not a usual look on him, “Susan?”

Who the hell was Susan?
