Chapter 67: Temptations

*Chief Song POV*

This morning I woke up in a state of anxiety and I had no idea why, I hadn’t had an anxiety attack in a long time, not since when I was a boy. I was restless and the weather wasn’t helping, we had made good progress for the past weeks until now, we were stuck again; Naim was annoyingly tagging along my every move. He stared at me and did not care if I noticed or not, in fact I knew he wanted me to say something about his undivided attention. I was not in the mood to entertain his antics, Kora knew well enough to stay away but the rest of the men could not care less.

“I have thought about it and I don’t believe it’s only a one-sided feeling, I know I have said it before and I am even beginning to sound like a broken record even to myself but you should know your reputation would be in shambles if anyone could see you like this, it is even worse because it is one-sided. I dread to think about what people would say if anyone found out that our handsome aloof chief is in love with a woman who is all shades of crazy.” I knew Naim was goading me but after I thought about Fedor and her antics in the past, I knew he was still sore about the pink hair prank.

“Think whatever you want, I do not have the time to entertain you.” I murmured.

He sighed, “You love sick fool.”

Anyone could see that he was enjoying teasing me a lot and the worse part of it is that he was right, I was not okay. I was driving myself crazy and I have noticed the side talks and glares my way. “Do you want me to get curious about your personal life as well? Because you are not the only one with sources.”

“Petty, you were not a man with such tendencies before. It is true what they say, love changes people. Fedor better run because if you ever manage to get her, she is never getting away. Women don’t want to be obsessed over, they lose taste easily. Play hard to get, let her know she is an option, wait… you don’t need the advice, you are doing that anyway. She is fresh meat, do you know how many people will pounce on her at the headquarters, even her personality can’t chase everyone she meets.”

I did not know the game he was playing but he had me intrigued and I dropped the weight I was carrying and turned to face him. He was relieved that I was finally paying attention, Carlos joined us and leaned at the side as we listened to whatever rubbish Naim was about to spew. “Go ahead. I know it is killing you.” I cleaned my face with the towel hung on the weight and settled in.

“Do you know the monster from Admin, Charles; Handsome but nasty personality. Ladies love that sort of thing.” He made a dramatic pause gauging our reaction.

“Spit it out.” Carlos jumped in impatiently.

He smirked, satisfied that he got the reaction he’d been expecting before he continued, “Word is he has a soft spot for our girl, Fedor.”

I ignored the jab that Fedor was ours instead of mine, Naim was either a sociopath or a psychopath because he had shown no interest beyond professional until he had a glimpse of emotions and now he had made it his hobby to get a rise out of me. “He’s her supervisor.”

“Of course, you’d know who her supervisor was; but he has never scolded her in public. He talks with her privately and always has her back. Charles has no one’s back; he is an arrogant overconfident prick with an inflated sense of ego.” I got a sense that Naim did not like this man which was not news, he was not liked but he was competent, I would know; I have had to work with him once or twice. He was one of those people whose ego was justified but I said nothing as I continued to listen. Most of what he was saying, I already knew because of my nightly calls with Fedor, she was not one to shy from information since our last fight over her lack of disclosure until last night where she was a bit dazed.
